ML TOWBAR FITTING

Hi, I wish to fit a towbar to my 2001 (facelift) ML270, Is this a straightforward job with regard to the Canbus wiring?, i have been told to use a seven way relay by one source but another has told me that the wiring is already provided behind the bumper and to connect it directly to the socket.....can someone tell me for sure what is the best way to approach this task.
(I am intending to fit single electrics)
