ML warning lights

I regularly get the abs and other esp warning lights come on for a while then go.
Had this before and was a faulty sensor.
Garage said it was hard to trace which one it was. Sensor was a reasonable price but the labour to find it wasn't !!
Any idea where they all are and how to trace/check them ?
If they are disconnected one at a time will that help or are they resistive shorts to a control unit ?
Any ideas/help ?

I would have thot that the Mb STAR diagnostic would pin point the offending item. tho generally esp and abs faults lamps tend to be self resetting on most motors, where the fault has been rectified.
