Not sure in Warks where you are but, a colleague, Worcs but near Warks border, needs the fuel tank on an MG YB repaired. West Mercia Radiators also repair fuel tanks.

If not too far away then, "one delivers" and "one collects". Transport costs halved.:)

    Blimey. Smilies now working!:geek:

If a likely 'scenario', then PM me for contact details regarding my colleague.;)

Cheers, I saw that previously before it was reduced. It’s getting to a more reasonable price now.

Just a small matter of collection to sort out.

Yes, sent them a request but yet to get a response. Will be calling them on Mon if I don’t hear back over the weekend.
Ebay is proving to be the most fruitful source currently.

Terrific and enjoyable thread and good luck with sorting everything Tom. If I was a bit younger I'd love to have a go at what you're doing.

PM on it's way, not just for this but I also have an old Yamaha TZR fuel tank for them to see if they can salvage!

Due to pick up that bonnet at the weekend along with a complete front slam panel assembly, and maybe even a wing in the correct colour. REALLY looking forward to this weekend's road trip to that London :D

thanks for the link, looks like it could come in handy although a bit of a nightmare to navigate if you're browsing.

Fingers crossed I'll have a few hours in the garage on Sunday to survey all the bits I've collected at the weekend and carry on with some more of the strip down.
I'm really tempted to take a day's holiday and really crack on, we'll see after this weekend.

Details gone off to MBUK now, so I'm eagerly awaiting a reply with the digital service history. I'm after a set of the original manuals and there seems to be a few floating about on ebay, although c. £50 is a low priority expense currently.

Another plus, the V5 has come back and there is no record of it being a CAT-N insurance write off, I didn't realise that the new rules mean that a non-structural repair isn't recorded on the V5 like the Cat C/D would be.

The strange thing, is that I'm keeper number 10 in the space of just over 10 years...that's some movement. I'd love to know how's it's changed keeper's so many times.. perhaps it was in a family at some point and got passed about. o_O

That’s a good shout on the breakers yard, I recently stumbled across a massive breakers in Rugby and I’ve been looking for a excuse for a day out there! Not had a good scrappy rummage in years.. come to think of it, i’ll give some of the Merc specialist breakers a ring too as imagine it’s not really considered a high value part!

The general condition of the car doesn’t scream abused, so I’ll chalk the ownership numbers down to just being an odd one.
I’ve googled the VIN and get nothing bit a decoder result. Which in itself helped me decide on the max auction bid as it came with some nice options that I hadn’t previously considered.

id always recommend exploring all the options pal , what some places treat like gold others its just another part that's better sold than left on the car / shelf , back when a broke up my old ML , genuine 2nd hand mudflaps were silly money on ebay but I wanted it gone so sold the set for £40 , some people buy large 4x4's without taking into account the true running costs and then panic and sell up , aslong as it runs well and all the toys work , who cares about the previous owners ;)

Oh can't fault you, I used to love rummaging through the scrap yards too, especially when such cars like Austin 3litres, XJ6's, Zodiac's, Wolseleys, Triumph's just to name a few were rife in the yards
ML looks to be coming on nicely. Many owners means pampered by each for 12 months ;)

I don't think there's many (any?) where you can have a good rummage these days, they take all the bits off and scrap the rest. Makes it difficult to get all the fixings and connectors :( used to love a good crawl around with a few spanners in my pockets

A little road trip to London today, and a return with a small haul of bits for the first steps in repair.
First stop was to collect an almost complete front slam panel assembly, with the bumper beam, radiator, intercooler, horns (only one grr), cooling pack frame and various metal work that I require.
There’s also plenty of bits that I don’t need, so hopefully I can recoup some of the investment by selling those. By buying to complete I saved a good £200-300 on buying separate.
The bonus is the radiator looks to be in fantastic condition.
The guy also had a tidy passenger wing in the right colour so snapped that up too.
Second stop was to pick up the bonnet noted by JBell, done deal at £260 which i’m happy with as again the condition of it is very good.
There may be a few bits I can strip off it to recoup some cash.. we’ll see.
Itching to get stripping down, so will hopefully get some garage time tomorrow!

Managed a few hours in the garage yesterday, no sore head!
Need to find a low tone horn as it’s gone walkies since the auction picture was taken!
(Rad back on the list.. see below)
    413C5899-ADDB-4792-9462-5DB1993CCCDA.jpeg 6842F723-1763-4B95-A284-E0036D8FD8AC.jpeg

Spent most my time stripping off all of the parts that I don’t need, and checking the quality of the replacement bits.
    6062452C-C171-47BD-BB15-61D22D34195F.jpeg

It quickly became apparent that the radiator is different, I can only assume it’s come from a lower power model or that the spec of the older cars is different.
Mine has what looks like an oil cooler that sits in front of the a/c condenser, and it’s mounted on bosses on the rad.
    A944A040-3EDD-40CA-A42E-C3274CB4178A.jpeg 80E500A8-5563-46EA-BEE6-0A9846FA9A7A.jpeg

It looks like I could mod the rad and plastic weld some nuts, but I’m kind of thinking it’s best to change the rad for a new one while it’s all out and save potential headaches later in life.

I’m glad I got a complete slam panel assy as I hadn’t realised how crumpled this area was until I compared it to the replacement. I could have pulled it out, but would have been a lot more effort.
    86BF6304-FFCD-43F2-B818-022B865F6EB7.jpeg

The aluminium bumper beam is also a lot more distorted that it seemed, I’ve put the new on top here so you see just how bad it is!
A very long lever bar was required to prise it off of the crushed impact absorber.
    2C3E2C46-88B1-4C49-AEAB-F3483F7DD4A0.jpeg C3F72399-9763-4C2D-94AB-B9F8413BEBC3.jpeg

Got to use my new tap and die kit too, the bolt holding the washer bottle on was ready to shear but plenty of wd40 and some back/forward action and I was able to free it off. Chase the thread in the hole, and on the bolt and it’s good to go again.
Same can’t be said for the radiator air guide bolt that sheared almost instantly.
Never mind though, one sheared bolt in a afternoon has to be a record for me...but then again I’m used to working on crusty 90s Japanese metal!

Might be worth considering this... as I discovered, even a second hand "slightly damaged" bumper cover can be
ridiculously expensive, I ended up using this repair method and had the Chips away guy spray it, looks mint now.

Thanks for the link, I'll have another look at the bumper and check it out... I think there are some missing bits of plastic so this may be a struggle.
But it would be incredibly satisfying, as you're right... even second hand in awful shape they cost a fortune!
