Your best chance of shifting that broken stud is this piece of kit. Not cheap but the ability and longevity of tools is in direct proportion to their cost. https://ridgidtoolshop.co.uk/genera...MIu8Xzsczq5QIV1-FRCh2TIQNMEAQYAyABEgLU8vD_BwE
problem is the broken bolt is 6mm and its 40mm down an 8mm hole and space is limited above the hole for a drill , a very small drill bit would be needed to drill a small starter hole and they are too short to reach(too weak to be long enough to do job, would snap too easily, possibility of getting closer access to use thin drill bit using dremmel type drill ,but used new bolt in 8mm insert and its holding injector fine with no leaks, if it fails again will try dremmel but think it may be too weak to do job, but cross that bridge when I come to it !

not having any joy with bosal oris with regard to key for towbar hitch, its still locked in place in boot cubbyhole, trawled the web for inspiration, its got a 3 star handle, all key cutters only cut for 4 star as 4 star type has keycode on lock which they didn't do for 3 star!
Have tried Bosal online form which has to be faxed!!! no fax in my house so have scanned form and sent to Bosal customer services a few times now and they havnt acknowleged or replied to emails, useless !!
I did find A Bosal webpage offering key replacement service, the initial page had an English or german option which was good but the minute you pressed the key ordering link it reverted to german with no option for English,, frustrating..
think if I cant find a cheap locksmith to release it from boot AND lock it onto bumper(where it will stay) may have to resort to hammering screwdriver into lock and hope it unlocks !
Any usefull advice that has worked for any other member with a 3 star handled detachable ml factory fitted Towbar will be gratefully received !!!!

My b***dy printer/all-in-one died last night - otherwise I was going to telly to mail it to me and I would fax it.
But here's a couple of possible ideas...

1) You can send a fax via email using this firm: https://www.efax.com/how-it-works

I haven't used this particular one but I used to use a similar thing called Email to Fax I think - a few years back - you registered for something silly like 50p and they allocated you a an 07 number (which is how they made their money!) and incoming faxes were sent on to you for free and to send a fax you could do it online.

OR

2) I also saw this on a minute ago:

https://www.gmailfax.org
Search for: Can I send a fax from my Gmail?

How to Send an Email to Fax

Open your Email program and create a new Email message just like you normally do. In the “To” field enter the destination Fax Number followed by “@srfax.com”. ...

Attach the document(s) you want to send as a fax from Email. ...

Click on “Send” to send the fax by email.

Best of luck!

If you use Chrome browser you should get an option to translate any webpage in the top right hand corner

I stopped using google chrome because I couldn't run sky on my laptop, had loads of problems, which were solved by deleting it.

Last night I sat and copy and pasted bit by bit the german pages into a translation page on internet ,unfortunately the online form requires a serial number on the back of the towball bit,,this is the side that's against the back of the cubby hole locked in place in the boot, I am changing thermostat and coolant today, while I am out there I will attempt to get number using mirror and torch in cubby hole, if successful will be able to fill in online form and submit and hope for best....
funny thing is this form when you select M class w163 tells you the towbar is AK40,, the previous web form I emailed them (that required faxing) indicated by picture choice ,that my towbar was An AK11,

Have just drained the coolant from the system via bottom hose fitted thermostat, no problems took 9litres ish to refill so couple of litres still left in it when drained ? temp a lot better on gauge
Had a go at getting serial number off back of towbar in boot, wedged it away from wing with bits of ply enough to get small mirror behind it and managed to get picture of number !!
Now to see if bosals online key application works, not holding my breath !
Next job transmission filter/oil change when fleabay deliveries arrive.

Careful with the stud extractor Vincent. If that breaks in the broken bolt it will mess things right up
its the drill bit breaking that's the problem , because its a 6mm bolt going to have to use 2/3mm bit, then tap a small torx into the hole, with the drilling and tapping the torx into it would hopefully undo easily, I've done it before and it worked..hopefully wont have to do it , injector is holding in ok after a couple of hundred miles .

Did the transmission filter and fluid change today,
took out 3 litres and replaced from sump and pumped through 3.9l from return oil cooler Banjo bolt ,which was a bit of a pain. went for a drive and topped up with more fluid not sure how much but not a lot left of 8 litres, will check tomorrow, only got sump up to about 65 deg c,, so will check again after longer drive and 80 deg c probably tomorrow.
Also tried to replace multiplug on gearbox ,but couldn't get small bolt in middle of plug to engage and tighten, tried everything , then put old one back in and tightened straight away ! took old one out again and put seals off new plug onto old plug and replaced old plug ,hopefully will not leak.

managed to get gearbox up to 75 deg c today so checked fluid and topped up with last of 8 litres, which should bring it within top marks on dipstick,,#
Have noticed that at standstill in drive and reverse there is slight vibration which wasnt there before, worrying, raise revs slightly and vibration goes ?
Will have to get car into air again on ramps and see if its something around the gearbox I have disturbed as I did bend away heatshield to get at (did bend back)banjo and also pulled banjo pipe away a little to get bolt out,
other than that fingers crossed all ok,
Still on the hunt for a front bumper maybe then I can get front and back parking sensors working..

Vibration maybe emgine mounts. Quite a common issue with 270ML
Thanks, could be, with the bad weather, and the to do list, havnt had a close up look underneath, but now the list is getting smaller and finding a bumper is not going to happen in a hurry, the next sunny slightly warmer day will be getting all 4 wheels of ground for a good mooch around,
Got the towbar keys today from bosal !
Towbar removed from boot and fitted in minutes, hooray.

just be aware about parking sensors.
On my Ml270 there was a front parking sensor fault, connecting my scanner stated left outer sensor faulty, so replaced it, still not good, scanned again, same fault, so suspected had bought a dodgy sensor, got another one, put it in and, yep you guessed it, same fault.
so i then thought it must be the wiring, took bumper off (a job and a half when all bolts were cross threaded ( theres a clue there) and i could not believe how tight the wiring was to the left outside sensor, until i saw the slack wire to the left inboard sensor. Yep, some one had crossed them, so the fault was on the inboard sensor not the outside one, replaced that, put bumper back with new fixings i had to make up, and has been good ever since.
A scanner like the MB2 is a great help, sometimes !!!!!!.

Also, have a look at the Turbo and see if there is any oil wetness on the turbo actuator bracket. My Turbo leaks oil from the low pressure side plate, which means the Turbo would have to be removed to replace the o ring seal. As its only a few drips a month, i have left it alone for time being. (the oil comes from the breathing system, i did replace the separator but it did not make much difference.
My heating flaps have a mind of their own, work sometimes, other times not, but i have a work around for that. If the defrost flap to screen does not open, shut engine off, count to ten, turn ignition on and let the system perform its tests, then start engine and the flap works.
last but not least the rear heater blower can fail, mine did and i fitted another one, easy job, cost me £20 off e bay, but i found £19 in one pound coins under consul, so cost me a pound !!!!!

Have fun, you are doing a decent job.

Hoping for the best fearing for the worst !
Have not sold my old car yet just in case !
Will probably give it another week or two...
When i get replacement front bumper will probably have to drill and fit my old sensors, the chances of getting a tanzinite blue bumper with factory fitted sensors are looking slim.

Well ,weather has been rubbish so no chance to do anything other than trawl the adverts daily for a bumper in good nick at the right price, with no joy,, think I will have more chance of buying a complete spares or repair car and take off the bumper and claw back the outstanding balance breaking it !
Have invested in a 2nd hand ,
iCarsoft MB V2.0,
£95 delivered.
Looked ok on reviews , seemed ok, don't know what the forum concensus is on it ?
Ml is driving well, only smokes on initial hard acceleration which I expect from any diesel of this age ,but if I keep the foot hard to the floor up to about 60mph it looks like I get a couple of small puffs of smoke ,maybe an injector a bit worn, not enough smoke to worry about though.

It is the best on the market at that price although depending on your car, the i980 may be adequate but these cost new about the same as what you paid for a more comprehensive model coverage.

"I get a couple of small puffs of smoke ,maybe an injector a bit worn, not enough smoke to worry about though". It will always chuff a bit of smoke as its Euro 3, I get the occasional puff out of mine when the turbo wakes up :D, they probably did that from new .
