Like you, I have no leak onto the ground below, its a very small leak, so once I have cleaned everything inside and out, if it is 'insignificant' and not causing my light smoking at exhaust it will be left alone with a rag suitably placed to catch any oil for the time being.

had this a few times on vehicles , all the kits there but the important part , either the stereo OR the box of tricks that runs the set up , folk seem to remove Parrot kits or Bluetooth head units when they sell the car on

might see if I can find the 2 wires that attach to it, behind the radio , might be an easy way to power a dash cam without running a separate cable_(via the innards of usb cig lighter adaptor to give me the right fused voltage supply) making a presumption that the 2 wires will be adequate ????

Took all the pipes and plugs off to get to turbo, inlet pip to turbo was a mess, last person to fit it mullered the orange rubber sealing ring and split the pipe under jubilee clip, could explain my oil leak, couldnt re use rubber seal so had to makw a new one out of an old inner tube cut and stiched together and coated with a bit of epoxy, bodge i know , but needs must ! 20191207_114420.jpg

Well spotted, BUT, looks like jasper blue or similar lighter blue, not tansanite 359, and ive come close to buying a whole car in the right colour for about double that which is more economical as i get tyres bumper etc etc and then scrap value, definetly going to down the route of buying complete car , will probably pay for itself, biding my time! Will also get complete turbo pipe and seal ! Hopefully in good nick, dont know if you noticed in previous pics pipe is split under jubilee clip, 20191207_121628.jpg 20191207_130039.jpg

Also fitted my £2 droplink, very quick and easy, see how long it lasts.

Don't beat yourself up about a bodge - most of them last for many years! When our "Desert Rats" boys had to make a fix with no parts available I'm sure they used anything they could get their hands on!

Only thing that worries me is how hot does the turbo inlet get and will the innertube melt!!! But didn't have a lot of choice when the original one was in such a mess !

Epoxy resined a 10mm allen key socket into my front diff filler plug a couple of days ago and had another go at undoing the plug today,
Just twisted out ,no joy , I have previously refilled it from bottom plug with a pipe through a rubber bung and pumped it in from bottom, put a litre of gear oil in but lost some when pulling bung and fitting plug, so less than a litre, most posts just say fill till it comes out of filler hole, unfortunately I don't have this option, anyone know the specified quantity the front diff should take, worried I may not have enough oil in diff ?

That split in the intake pipe will have been allowing the turbo to suck in a lot of unmetered air which would confuse the ecu, is it less smokey now you've repaired the split ?

Regarding heat at turbo and your "fix", i would not worry, as the pipe is plastic and has not melted !!!!

Took it out for a spin and after engine had warmed up a bit then put foot down hard from standstill and while driving and definitely improved on the big cloud of black smoke I was getting,
Did wonder though was this going to be temporary as I did thoroughly clean the inside of the pipes including breather of all oil and yuk.
Is it going to gradually refill with oil from breather and smoke more again?
Time will tell, for the minute I am happy and just waiting to see if light smoke on tickover is going to improve.

To be honest the Oil Separator on these engines is a bit of a mystery to me, I cant see how it's supposed to work (not sure it actually does ) It's on my to-do list to fit a new one at some point but low priority as mines running quite clean at present. We all know there shouldn't be any oil present in the charge air pipes/intercooler and when there is, failing turbo oil seals are sometimes the culprit, however I also believe that oil mist fed into the turbo by the crankcase re-breather system can collect in intercooler then under hard acceleration get swept up by charged air producing the signature puff of smoke when you put your foot down.
At some point I will remove the intercooler and clean it out properly, just cant be arsed.
I did a 6 hour round trip to Wales in June it was running very clean after that.
Diesels love to run long and hard !! o_O.

yes all a bit too oily for me , I took the egr pipe of again a week ago just check it and yes plenty of oil in it again
20191129_123258.jpg 20191129_123318.jpg
That brings me neatly on to my next oil leak, beneath all the pipes going in around egr and on right edge of radiator have more oil showing, once again not dripping on floor but messy enough to try and find source
Going to check fuel consumption this week, fill up on tuesday and refill a week Tuesday, all short trips , so see what worst mpg is ! Have got 20-22 mpg before cleaning up egr etc on short trips.
Longer run at xmas all motorway so will check again for best mpg ,
unless I get spare ml in next few days that I am looking at, which I will be towing on recovery trailer . Have to find trailer for hire first near to margate, seem to all be a bit away from me which is a pain.(Had one in back garden a few years ago that I sold, doh, hindsight huh.)
