Its leaking out the pilot bust, most common fault known to any 7226 box made!!

Thats the plug where the wiring plugs into the gearbox!!

Where is this located?

Would lack of oil lock the gearbox in permanant LIMP mode?

Went to the garage today all happy to look for the PLUG etc and hopefully find the leak...

But as always nothing is that simple! :(

The oil is infact engine oil not gearbox oil! GUTTED

The car was 1ltr ish low on oil, cant see where its coming from atall!

My question is, would this or a problem with the engine cause the car to go into LIMP mode?

Or will the box only lock into gear etc when there is a problem with the box...?

So maybe I have 2 problems????

AHHHHH, i already hate being a mercedes owner! :(

would this be engine oil our atf if engine oil I would expect a dash warnig light
if atf don't know about 1 lt missing, also there could be oil coming from under the inlet manifold working its way down to the bell housing mine does this but I never need to top up between oil changes 13500K.

My question is, would this or a problem with the engine cause the car to go into LIMP mode?
I don't know this either I have had engine oil too low warning light with out limp mode.

Or will the box only lock into gear etc when there is a problem with the box...?
I would say yes to this

So maybe I have 2 problems????
I would say one problem

How many miles as your motor done I'll make aguess of about 140000k

Just had someone over with a diagnostics system....

Fault codes came up are:

013 - Speed Sensor
109 - Speed Sensor
110 - RPM Comparason
116 - Oil temp sensor
146 - inadmissible transmission ratio
147 - Gear inadmissible or slipping

Like he said 1 fault can then make multiply codes come up and i have no idea what any of these mean?

Anyway he cleared them all and car drives perfect now! :D

However im gussing it could be a 1 mile or 1000 miles before another fault happens and it does it again. As i havent actually fixed anything!!!!

Do clean out the sump breathing pipes,,crankcase compression can force oil out of the seals

Assuming you have established that the gearbox oil level is correct, then it means the electroplate has gone.

Hi if S-A-M / U-N-I-T says it shot then you need to change it our get someone to do it here is a thread about the solution to my auto box problem
http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=46442
it might be possible for you to do it yourself depending on your ability its not that difficult a job but I've never done it.

I would give it a go, i have a SUPERB magazine article which I picked up whilst waiting in the Merc garage for them to check my oil.

Step by step guide!!

Part numbers are the only thing that worry me! and getting all the right parts
