Thanks mate I have to get the codes read. I hope it's not the manifold Indy wants $2000 to replace with genuine parts. But it is what it is I guess

I have a replacment Manifold with the Flaps removed and blanked off.

This is the second one I have done, the first is on my ML270 2003 model with the EGR shunt in place as well.

Yours for only £150 :)

Yes - as above. Don't waste your money on a new manifold. Easily modded as mentioned above. Pull it off, clean it out and, if you wish, blank off the flap rod holes. Need to trick the flap motor too as mentioned.
I cleaned mine out, installed the egr shunt but left the flaps working. Figured they would stay good without all the egr gunk in the system. So far, so good.

My own car had all the same symptoms including black smoke it was improved by the £3.20 o-ring.
Below was what led me to try it
Clues for boost leak is black smoke coming out of the tailpipe. This is caused by an excessively rich condition. The AFM is seeing XXX amount of air pass into the intake but somewhere in between the turbo and the engine there is a leak causing some of the air to be lost. Because the ECU does not know this, it is still adding fuel, this causes an overly rich mixture which is expelled out as black smoke

I'm thinking it is a boost leak I can hear it spool up pretty loud with the window open

Sorry. I misunderstood. I thought you said it was on the INLET side of the turbo and that didn't make much sense. Of course, on the boost side, it is very relevant.

The only suspect hoses are the ones from the turbo to the intercooler and the one from the intercooler to the inlet manifold.
If you carefully lock the parking brake on firmly and get someone to partly load the motor up in drive gear, this will create boost and you should be able to feel/hear the leak if there is a split or loose hose clamp/seal.

Ok so I found out the oil seperator hose has a big cut in it, the one from the turbo pipe to the oil seperator. I will replace it but I'm not sure how this would cause black smoke

Just had the codes read today and these faults came up p1482 glow plug output stage excess current.... P1481 glow plug fail cyl 2.. P0100 hot film mass sensor supply voltage too low. I have changed the air mass sensor a month ago so the code was stored and has been cleared. There where no other faults. So I'm guessing it has to be a ****** hose, I have felt them while under pressure and the are getting firm.

If a boosted hose is split, it will have plenty of oil on it - pcv oil leaking out. If your hoses are completely dry, the hoses are OK. Check the intercooler similarly - wet with oil means a boost leak. If no leaks anywhere, maybe you need to have another look at egr issues.

I can also hear the boost/hissing noise at 2000 rpm onwards from the right side where turbo is . I thought turbo comes on at 2500rpm?
