Hopefully your swirl flaps are still OK at 110K then. Mine were fine at 100K when I cleaned out the manifold. The shunt will prevent any further buildup of crap in there but maybe one day when you feel like a large job, you could remove the inlet manifold and clean out all the horrible gunk in there. Many have also removed the swirl flaps too which then makes the manifold pretty much "good forever". I kept mine in as I felt the oily vapour minus the egr abrasives would keep the swirl flaps in good order. Time will tell.
Glad you are finally pretty much sorted out.

Stumo,
I am a newbe to this forum & from Surrey Hills Vic. I got the same smoke issue & cleaned the egr but may be it's sticking. Doesn't rev-up even more than about 2000.
Just wonder if I could catchup? I noticed you are in Mt Waverley.

Hi all, I'm also in Melb and am keen to delete the EGR in my 2004 ML270 (243,800km). I cleaned and blanked (16mm bolts/tap) the inlet manifold last week and it was an even bigger job than what I had read about (very grateful for the online help though). Did the job in Adelaide with a friend, then managed to drive the car back to Melb with no problems. The manifold was surprisingly clean (compared to photo's Ive seen) but the flaps etc were moving up and down and were clearly the reason for all the oil running down the side of the block. Anyhow I've read through the posts re deleting the EGR but the wiring talk is like a foreign language to me and outside my comfort zone, so wondering if Stumo (Mt Waverly is very close to me) or anyone else is interested in helping me out.

Thanks for all the posts, this is such a useful resource for novice do-it your selfers like me.
