I knew it would be a matter of time, the brake wear warning light came on for the first time this morning so I obviously need to source new pads, now do I buy genuine MB from www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk for the sum of £77.18 + VAT or can we identify the manufacturer of the pads and get them cheaper, also is a pad fitting spring kit recommended at £8.24 + VAT.

From an earlier thread I believe the oe pads are Mintex, is this true? Do we still apply copper grease to the back of the pads to stop them squealing like we did years ago?

Thanks guys.

Hi Andy, mintex are indeed OE to MB from Parts co and other factors.

the up to date grease is now Mintex Cera Tec, a copper free grease.

Sorry to be a pain again guys, can anyone recommend a supplier of Mintex pads for an ML270, I have looked until I am blue in the face but there are lots of uprated ones and pads that dont even resemble mine, by my year I presume mine are Brembo calipers and not KH, I am half tempted to just bite the bullet and get them from www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk , at least they will be the right ones.

Any one used Pagid or Texstar as sold by George Fraser?

Just an update guys, I received the Textar pads and and antisqueal paste from GSF Car Parts for the grand total of £100.45 + £17.58 VAT. The rear pads were an absolute doddle to fit, the pins knocked through easily, the front pins were tighter but I managed to free them with some WD40 and a modified screw driver used as a punch. The front pads were well worn but the rear were not too bad but changed them anyway. I did not buy any spare pad sensors but on inspection only one was worn so I shall order one and change that at the next opportunity. If I was doing the job again I would buy new securing pins for the padsf in the front calipers and get a proper steel drift from Machine Mart, I also intend to source an alignment peg/bolt to aid fitting the wheels again as my car does not seem to have a tool kit like my last Merc did, all I have is a jack with a nut bar attached to it and a screw driver fitted in the end of the nut bar.

The entire job took 2 hours 10 mins including messing about trying to free the front pins and adapting a screw driver to act as a drift and cleaning out the dried on mud from all 4 corners (off roading to blame for that, everything was caked) overall I am pleased with how everything went and would recommend any one to tackle this job, just dont forget to remove some fluid from the brake reservoir as you go along because of pushing the caliper pistons back in, next time around should be a lot quicker.

Yes is is best to have the real punch for knocking out the pins, I have never had to replace any yet. The job though is straight forward, the same goes for replacing the disc. Pleased that you are all done

Just noticed this thread and would like to add: Check your disks!

The ML's eat brake disks. I replaced the pads 2 years ago with Mintex and last year had to replace the pads and disks. I used Europarts for the disks and pads, all OEM suppliers to Merc. So far been ok, covered ~12K since fitting and still look in good nick.
