Last week the ML (88k) was struggling to start, but when it started it ran as normal - prefectly. Then a couple of days later - it wouldnt start at all - All lights on the dash were ok - Just not firing.

I work away so my wife put in my local garage they said it may be an injector problem ? - Does this sound feasible ? - Would it run normaly with an injector problem ? - They replaced some sensor and now it at least starts eventually !! - But it is still struggling to fire.

They said the injectors will be an expensive job - and indicated that i may only get a year out of the new injectors ? - This sounds very bleak to me - please tell me your thoughts :-( :-(

MB replaced the injector seals with a better seal, if the injector was leaking there will be a black varnish on top of the engine around the leaking injector, sounds to me like air is getting in the fuel lines and at standstill the fuel is draining away hence the problem starting.

Injectors last more than a year unless your garage is buying them from china!! £148+vat each from MB, Ive seen the injectors crack but you will know when that happens as diesel gets sprayed everywhere.

Find yourself another garage, someone thats knows MB might help.

+1. the injectors are designed to "leak-off" fuel back to the tank, that is how they operate. All it takes is for one to fail and leak-off too much, then the pump has trouble building up pressure, especially during cranking.

This is a common problem, so find a MB/CDI experienced garage instead. It isn't rocket science and sounds like you are currently being taken for a ride.

So are they leak-off leaks or blow-by leaks, as the two types are totally different.

A Leak-off problem will mean a rebuilt or new injector, ie. $$$
A blow-by leak will mean a good clean, new injector seal, and new bolt, ie. a few quid if you do it yourself.

Both problems mean the injector(s) at fault have to come out, which can be really easy, or really hard if they are stuck in due to bad blow-by buildup (aka black death).
