hello all

The main beam is way to low on my ml lower than the dip beam, I have been flashed a few times just with my dip beam on so if I ajust the headlights will that bring the dip beam up aswell ?

many thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

Perhaps if I offer my tuppence worth, others will contribute/contradict.

Headlamp units adjust as a unit so if the mainbeam is lower than the dipped beam, adjusting the unit will not cure that.

It sounds as though either the unit is back to front (wired incorrectly) or, perish the thought, the user missunderstands the controls?

Once upon a time I fitted the first generation halogen bulbs to a TR3A. That meant rewiring the bulb holders, and I got there by trial and error. I started with both wrong (dip was mainbeam and vice versa so the main beam warning light showed when on dip) then one correct (main beam warning light shone continuously but half strength), then I finally got it right - the halogens turned night into day and 100 mph at night became safe for the first time.

The main beam warning light on MB is blue and illuminates on mainbeam, or if you flash the lights. Check that this corresponds with your understanding of when you are on mainbeam (indicator stalk pushed away from you). If so, it is possible that the lamp units are wired wrongly.

If you have missunderstood the convention, this should rectify the problem. It will also save people flashing you when you think you are on dipped beam.

Hope this helps. ;)
