The diesel warming light comes on as normal when the ignition switch is turned but comes back on after the engine has fired. Is this a major problem?.

I would say you have one or more glowplugs gone, thats the normal reason for the light to come on after start.

Can this be a diy or a definite garage

Yes, one or more glowplugs has failed, best to renew all 5 at the same time.

Easy diy, you will need a long-reach 1/4 or 3/8 drive socket .....(10mm if i remeber correctly).

Plugs are about £12 each

ML270 glowplugs

Thanks for the info., I think its time to get the rusty old sockets out of the carrier bag, and give them a whirl.

Best regards

be careful. As I understand it, they can be tricky to get out and can damage the head. I think I'd hand it to someone who knows them. It could get very expensive if it goes wrong.

You could first of all check the glow plug relay, this relay box also contains the fuses for the glowplugs and if one or more of the fuses are blown the pigtail light will stay on ...The fuses can be repaired
