Hi Everyone,

I bought an ml270 , the turbo failed the day after i had it,it suffered from an oil leak, i put it into a well respected inde dealer who replaced the turbo using the same unit but had it repaired, he fixed a fuel leak, done some diagnostics and charged me £945.
Drove the ml home and the turbo failed.
It was rather noisey when driving home but sounded like a loud turbo , he is taking the ml back tomorrow but i`m seriously worried about the cause of the failure.
Any ideas on what would cause it so soon?, the engine oil level has also dropped to just above minimum.

thanks in advance

I'm presuming it was a private sale? Otherwise it should have gone back to the dealer under warranty?

Is the "well respected" indie a Merc specialist?

yes a private sale, he is a specialist and does know mercs well, he was baffled as to why it has failed.
Is there a known fault that causes turbo failure so fast and uses engine oil?.
My worry is it costs more cash now.

Sounds like its running off the engine oil when you floor it my Turbo did the same had it rebuilt and fine.
The bill seems high for a rebuilt turbo but maybe something else was done.

Sounds like the 'repair' to the turbo possibly wasn't carried out competently, if the turbo seals fail this will cause engine oil to be consumed via the turbo at a rapid rate.

went out just there, there is exhaust gasses escaping from where the turbo joins the cat also that side of the turbo there is a hole maybe a bolt missing or maybe thats how its meant to be , its a mchined hole not a break but i couldnt get right in to look.
its running but a bit rough, the turbo spooled up , lots of smoke from around the area, a blocked cat maybe ? due to the previous failure ?
or if the hole is a missing bolt its been oil starvation ?

the only other work he done was fix fuel leak, fix oil leak it had, and get for fault codes, one of which was the maf sensor i fitted a new one and it worked fine.
it was a high repair bill given the original turbo was sent away and refurbished had it been a new unit i wouldn`t have minded.

Starting to sound like a compression issue, white smoke is either burning oil or coolant. Where did the car come from?

"the smoke is white/grey and excessive",

More likely to be unburnt diesel, imo. Need to read the codes on this one.

well today i cleaned out the egr, the intercooler ,drove it and all seemed slightly better was still rough and smokey.

then ots of smoke from engine just made it home

the first injector had been pushed straight into the bonnet, the inde told me it had been a botched job someone previous had done and it wasnt held on as it should be, so this must have been the problems with the smoke and running rough ??

needs on 1st look a rocker cover at least
