Been out in the car tonight, whilst pulling away from roadworks noticed a lack of power, it felt like I was pulling off in second gear and the car felt gutless, I tried to change down with the tiptronic and it would not budge from D, my journey was not much longer, I stopped, switched off the engine, restarted it and the tip worked again.

A couple of other strange occurances, the alarm has gone off twice in the last week for no reason and today on the way to the petrol station I noticed the passenger side mirror was still in the down / reversing position, I manually adjusted it and it has been ok.

Do you think I have a fault occuring, possible MAF or battery or something more sinister, if there is a chance that it could be the MAF I will buy one in the meantime.

Cheers guys.

Any input guys? Does it sound like a MAF on its way out at only 34,000 miles?

Cheers.

I have hesitated to answer, because I am not really qualified to suggest what could cause these symptoms.
However, it is clear that the electrical systems are involved, so presumably if you plugged in some diagnostics, any faults would be recorded.
I don't see how your MAF could affect the alarm or electric mirror - maybe ECU though?

Please let us know what happens. I have a vested interest, because my passenger side mirror keeps deviating from its set reversing position, and goes fully up and out instead. It is really frustrating, and I think the previous owner had it disconnected for that reason. I haven't a clue how the 'memory' works.

This morning the car has been fine, no troble at all with plenty of power again, possible glinch, I dont know. I may buy a new MAF anyway as they are only £50 odd so it wont break the bank, regarding the alarm, alarms can and do play up occasionaly with a fly inside the car etc, it does happen in my van occasionally.

If it happens again I shall check battery voltage and alternator output first as I belive a poor battery can cause all kinds of problems with electrics / electronics.

Regarding your dipping mirror, I just checked my hand book and there is no mention of setting or adjusting them, sorry I cant help.

The memory works by saving the settings for seat steering wheel and outside mirrors. On my 'E' you hold the green button and one of the memory positions to initially set the memory. As for the dipping pax mirror this works when the mirror adjust switch is set to the pax side. If you leave it on the drivers side it shouldn't dip. That is how it should work although yours sounds not quite right.

Thats exactly how I figured out mine as the mirror does change position with the seat adjustment.

Thanks for the comments. I did set the mirror as described in the handbook, and it worked the first time I tried reverse, but next time I used the car it had 'forgotten' the position. The other memory settings work fine.

I will experiment and note the results later, and then post my findings in a new thread.
