Welcome to the forum

When you say you have "tried the transmission fluid" do you mean you have checked the level at 80c, engine running and in park with the correct transmission dipstick? Incorrect ATF levels need to be ruled out first.

You need proper diagnosis, preferrably at a MB independant workshop with Star (MB diagnostics)
That should confirm you probably need a new electroplate/speed sensor in the gearbox.
Star will read the gearbox ECU and display fault codes meaning easy diagnosis.

I believe the cost is around £400 including parts, fresh ATF, filter and labour. Taking it to a main dealer will cost considerably more.

What is your location so someone may be able to advise a decent indy nearby?
