ML320 Power Steering Fluid

If someone could help I would appreciate it, I have a 2000 ML320. I recently had to change out the radiator and when I put everything back together I added some "off the local auto parts store power steering fluid". Now their is some whining coming from the power steering pump.

I am thinking I should drain the fluid out and add a different type of fluid, I am looking for some advice here.

Thanks in advance.

unless I miss my guess

most Mercs use the same fluid inthe PS as they do in the trans, the exceptions being those models with self-levelling suspension which share a reservoir . The fluid you put in, what exactly was it?

I used synthetic power steering fluid from a local auto parts store. I have read in other posts conflicting information. One post will say it is okay to use Dextron II ATF fluid and another will say absolutely don't use only MB fluid. I am a little confused now and am looking for a little guidance. I realize that using MB fluid I can't go wrong but they are not always open nor convenient.

Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

I have used Dexron II in the ps and the trans

in our 124, 202 and 107. I can't use it in the 210 as it has the common self-levelling/ps set-up.
I'm a bit off-message as far as MLs go, but if it has a separate ps reservoir from any self-levelling it may have, Dexron should be ok.
I can't be definite about it, as i haven't even been in an ML yet. Maybe one of the ML bunch will pitch in
