Hello,

I’ve for a mercedes phone cradle in the centre armrest. Will I be able to plug a Bluetooth adaptor straight into it, or will it need removing before fitting a Bluetooth adaptor.

I’ve added a picture to hopefully help.

regards

Brian

That is a cradle for a Nokia mobile phone. You’ll need to unplug that and for a Viseeo or Mercedes Bluetooth adapter. Please note it will only work for phone calls

Thank you for your swift response.

does the cradle simply unclip or does it need wiring removed, ready for the Visio unit

Think you'll find that the little buttom bottom right of the photo is the release button - push it down and the cradle will slide forward or back releasing the cradle and exposing the UHI connector it's mounted to - and which you'll need for attaching a suitable bluetooth adapter.

Thank you for that.

I’ll have a bash at that tomorrow, and try not to break anything

I removed the cradle off my last s211 when I removed the centre console and if I remember rightly the wiring went back under the console to a connector which was fiddley to unclip.

around 2004 to 2006 one needs to be careful if the current BT devices behave. Some models need a more rare "fake handset with curly cable" to interact with earlier car's electronics.

is it a W221 / C216 or an earlier thing ?

if its a later one the viseeo MB-3, MB-4, or MB-4+ are the non merc ones that work. But you must set up the dip switches to NTG4 - or it will not work correctly - this info is NOT in the handbook, they never covered the W221 set up.

Merc have at least 6 things out there

2 super costly, super and don't work handsets doing it via SAP
4 x costly std BT idea, the last iteration has a chance of behaving with modern phones - they "forgot" to make them firmware updateable

It matters, as the world spun on its axis in 2012 when they reinvented the BT connection method - we now have phones set in "always spy on me mode". And for the clever one's who "don't use BT" they just left NFC on to do the same job. Its so shops and business know who's in their buildings. I always find it extraordinary here - no one ever questioned this ??? I guess they are either mostly stupid or they are part of the problem. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_low_energy_beacon

Hi there,

it’s a 2006 W215.

I took the cradle off today to see what fitting was left behind.

I’ve attached a picture of what’s left, and a picture of the phone adaptor showing what the connection looks like.

regards

yep, left photo that's called the UHI (universal handy interface) - comandonline website says 2003 to 2005 W215 with COMAND APS system where the map DVD goes in the boot (i.e from MY2004 (built Sept 2003) onward).

or the viseeo ones in post 9... in other words the later type - oddly their site for the 2003 or earlier pre facelift W215, doesn't list a device that works

Hi,
thank you for the information, much appreciated.

I’ll get in touch with commandonline and see what they recommend.
