Monovalve, duovalve?

After reading up about my heating problem, it appears that the monovalve has gone. I have however read posts where someone said that most uk 560sec's have dual heating and therefore a duovalve.

I've asked a few parts suppliers for a monovalve, most have never heard of it but one has questioned whether it is a mono or duovalve that is needed.

Anybody know the difference or which I need?

I've got a 1987 D reg 560sec.

TIA

Sorry I do not know the answer but doubt you could source outside of the dealer network (other than a breakers yard).

I should imagine you could at least do your prelim enquiries on the telephone.

Some people also call it the heater valve.

If you have a look on www.importecparts.com , go to Mercedes then to the relevant year for your car and then to European (Not 560 SEC !). Go to climate control. Click on heater valve and you will see what it looks like.

The Americans use the mono valve.

Apparently it is definitely a mono valve, after talking to a guy in Leeds, most UK models have split heating where you can control the temperature on the left or right side. This uses a duo valve. I seem to have about the only UK model that doesn't have this. I have one temperature control, no dial for the fan but three buttons for fan control, full, minimum and auto. This is the reason that most of the UK guys I have spoken to know nothing about them, it is rarely used in the UK.

The link provided lead me to a mono valve repair kit, which is exactly what I need I'll just have to wait for it to be shipped from the US unless anybody know where I can get one from in the UK?

Thanks for all your help.

Well they can sort of. The main dealer has phoned me back saying they can get the whole unit for about £140 which seems a hell of lot when it's only a little rubber seal that has gone and they can't give me any delivery time on it. The plunger with the seal isn't sold seperately from them.

Your car has the very rare option of automatic climate control, standard on all US models. There is a guy that sells mono repair kits on e-bay in the US and ships to the UK at very cheap prices

With the strong pound it will likely be cheaper and easier to get the part in the US.

One place I dealt with shipped a part to me in 2 days, quicker than a lot of UK suppliers and it only cost 9 dollars.

I think I have found one!

I have spoken to a guy who does vehicle electrics who is a Bosch parts dealer. I explained totally what I was after, he spoke to a guy at bosch. I've got a repair kit coming tommorow for £23. I just hope it's the right one.

I'll post again when I've got it.

I know this is a very old post now but I have heather problems with my climate control - its either all hot or all cold. I've been told its the monovalve but the uk price is as much as the US $ price.
Anyone know where I can get the repair kit or know a good bosch dealer that can supply the part.
My cars a 1992 500E by the way.

Regards
Toby.

Ps.I also need an auxiliary water pump as my heater goes cold at low revs - not good with winter coming.
