So, without warnings, my gearbox troubles have come back after months of trouble free motoring. Drove the car today, first time since Monday, drove off and I could tell the engine was revving and not changing up as soon as usual. driving back home ASAP, whenever I put my foot down it would rev just passed 2k rpm, and it would kangaroo.
Left the car for a few hours drove off the drive, noticed the engine light on, and the car was behaving slightly differently, it was as if the clutch (doesn't have one) would slip a little and the revs increased a bit, before dropping down.

Bit of a dilemma, the MB specialists is 36 miles away. My only other option would be to take it to the numpties at the local VM/Audi specialists and see what they say. I do have AA home start, so I will see what they do from home, and if they would take it to a garage that far away. It's booked in for a service on the 10th June.

I'm booked in at my local MB specialists on Tuesday, thing is, it will no longer even move out of 1st. The garage is 36 miles away down the M5, and don't think the police or the engine would appreciate 1st gear all the way!
Hopefully AA home start can find something, and at least get the car somewhere.

Mr AA man has diagnosed a fault on the EGR valve. Trouble is, he deleted the errors, so now someone with a reader will not be able to read the codes. But I'm waiting on an email which has logged the error.

Depending upon what cover you have with the AA they’ll take it to a garage of your choice.

Since there has been a reset, I could drive again. Booked in for Tuesday Am at the specialists. I'm hoping that when I get there the management light comes on and records a fault, otherwise there is no way this will be sorted. I'm sure if there is a fault, I can drive in such a way to generate a code.

I organised the AA to drop off car at the garage. I had worn turbo seals, knackered water pump, it needed an exhaust pressure sensor, plus, it's having a A0 service. It had turbo seals under warranty by the second owner, so these must be a common problem.
All resolved yesterday, it looks like the EGR valve was ok, and nothing wrong with the gearbox.
I would imagine the turbo seals are a common problem, as this was the second time in 8 years/74k miles they've been done.

Exhaust back pressure sensor . 100 %
The kangerooing gave it away tbh. People always suspect the gearbox to be faulty , it's easy to understand why tbh. But for the most part it's an engine fault. I wouldn't care but the sensor is cheap enough and very easy for a DIY er to swap over .

Pleased you got sorted .

Yep, well spotted. They think the EGR is ok. Interesting, and it proves without a Star reader, you've got no chance!! I don't really know why you need an exhaust back pressure monitor? Are these just on diesels? How long should these last for? I'm not sure if they're cheap, but not the most expensive item to get resolved.
At least AA were spot on with the service they gave, that was a lifesaver.

Had a lovely drive to Lyme Regis this weekend, car was faultless. Not sure if this is because I know parts were changed but, it feels a lot quicker, and pulls a lot better when I put the foot down. Maybe the worn turbo seals were losing boost?
