Just had my MOT passed yesterday and on my list of advisories is this little lot !

BOTH FRONT brake disc slightly worn (3.5.1h)
Rear ACROSS REAR AXLE brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Offside Front brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)
BOTH REAR brake pad wearing thin (3.5.1f)
BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS HEAVILY CORRODED
NEARSIDE REAR LAMP CRACKED
Fuel pipe/s corroded
Oil leak
FRONT EXHAUST HEATSHIELD INSECURE
BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS CORRODED

My question is, being a woman I have been ripped off too many times, how much of the above should I sort immediately and what kind of price am I looking at, any advise would be great guys, also I cant see any evidence of an oil leak

At a MB dealer £1500 should cover it, Indie about £800.

Or do what I told my dad to do take the car to MB and ask them to MOT it, it came back with far less and they put it right for the MOT for a very sensible price.

Hello

It all sounds like its pretty important...Brakes, brake pipes and spings... All could do with working correctly and well.

Do you have any mechanically minded friends, as brake disc and pads fairly easy, spending £1500 or even £800 sounds a awful lot to what the car maybe worth?

Lamp is the easy one.... breakers or fle bay?

:)

Hope you get it sorted

Just had my MOT passed yesterday and on my list of advisories is this little lot !

BOTH FRONT brake disc slightly worn (3.5.1h) Do nothing, Annual Service should check thickness of disc for tolerance (wear is normal)
Rear ACROSS REAR AXLE brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c) Do nothing, lots of things will "slightly" corrode, if you're worried, get a friend to spray with something oily (WD40)
Offside Front brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c) Ditto
BOTH REAR brake pad wearing thin (3.5.1f) Hmmm, thin is very subjective, however if it goes from thin to bugger all you will ruin your disks - might be worth a 2nd opinion at a dealers
BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS HEAVILY CORRODED Do Nothing, these things are seriously thick bits of metal and are subject to all the horrors of road salt permanently
NEARSIDE REAR LAMP CRACKED Replace now before whole unit gets water damaged
Fuel pipe/s corroded Corroded or slightly ?? get 2nd opinion
Oil leak Er, depends where and how much. Get 2nd opinion
FRONT EXHAUST HEATSHIELD INSECURE Get fixed, it's there for a reason
BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS CORRODED Do nothing

Thanks so much guys, such a big list had me really worried, considering I only picked it up from the dealers on Tuesday!! I have a mechanic that I know pretty well and trust so will take it to him for a 2nd opinion, Can Kwik fit sort the exhaust shield do you know?
Thanks again fellas x

Have to say I agree with all that happy jim has said above.
As for the brake pipes I would give them a rub with a greasy rag. A light coating of grease will halt the corrosion and should provide better protection than a spray of WD40 in my opinion.
As for the insecure heat shield this is probably just a loose or missing bolt and might take your friendly mechanic not long to put right at minimal cost. Might be a broken bracket or shield itself but he'll tell you if it is.
Congratulations on the MOT pass at 12 years old - good cars the W202 - well made.

Sounds like the tester was covering his backside. Most cars of this age would show similar defects and if any had been serious it would have failed the test. As suggested take into a good indie for their opinion.
