My C220D has just passed its MOT. The smoke acceleration opacity mean value is 2.74, max allowed is 3.0. I have been filling up with Shell Diesel Extra for the last 2 years. Do I still need to add diesel additive or is the CAT on its way out?

Possibly more to do with how you drive and where. If you spend your time around town they can soot up badly. Put some diesel injector cleaner in a full tank then give it an Italian Tune up (full throttle in as many gears as legally allowable). Look in the rearview mirror and you will think you have a 007 Q fitment smoke screen:D

Agree with Blobcat. When i ran a turbodiesel, the tester at the MOT station I regularly used advised me to phone half an hour before the test then take the car for a blast down the motorway and they would test it as soon as I arrived. Always passed the emissions test by miles.
