Pity you couldn't get a test in NI. Don't test diesel emissions here.

It's a sticky on plate unfortunately, not pressed metal.
In the old days we could explore scrap yards ourselves. Now of course it's all by authorised persons only, ort I could cut the bit off another that says 2.5, or summat.

letraset numbers ✅

What's the reason it's 0.1, is it the same for all OM651's? Why aren't we hearing about more instances like this.

As an earlier poster said, it'll be the first thing I look at when buying a replacement vehicle.

Interesting reading concerning missing VIN plates and replacements. I don't know how accurate the information is (it is the web after all). A bit more homework might confirm or deny certain parts.

"However there are companies who can replicate your VIN plate but leave the emissions box blank. It is not currently illegal to reproduce and fit a replacement VIN plate provided that the vehicle is yours, and the VIN is original and not altered or defaced."

http://www.dpfproblems.net/new-mot-rules-may-2018-diesel-smoke-emissions/

The other question is, is a VIN visible under the windscreen (for example) satisfactory for the MOT? (Presumably, the main reason for a visible VIN is to help prevent ringed vehicles going through the test.)

One MOT tester once asked me to write the VIN on a piece of tape and stick onto a motorcycle frame that had been resprayed. The VIN was only just locatable but impossible to read due to new paint filling the stamped relief.

Another back to dealer pocket emptying scheme thinly disguised as green. I am going ,back ,to the future. Cant spend last part of my life on funding all these "schemes" drivin around waitin on a makers dash light to force me to the cc reader . Oil light, charge light ,ignition on light ,main ,dip, will do me. Along with sommat that takes a "bulb " that I CAN change in 5 min..NOT somnat that needs "coding" and takes half a day to get at and costs a small used car !.

Its mercedes setting the bar so low thats causing issues,.
I feel it is the Politicians because they are linking amount of road tax collected with the emissions. Link road tax with mileage and bank balance.

I've been hastily reading test reports.
While there is massive support for using 2 stroke (low ash variety) on the net, the testing of this doesn't seem to agree.
Zinc deposits on the injectors is one claim, and also zinc deposits reaching the DPF during cold starts, these 'apparently' won't burn off and can prematurely clog the filter.

I'm still left with the thinking that 0.39 is a good reading for the soot. It's the bl00dy 'marketing' spec that is plated that's the issue.
If this spec isn't going to be realistically met by a used engine then the planet suffers much more by the ongoing attempts to rectify what maybe can't be rectified to attain this unrealistic spec.
We see above that a Euro 6 VW, supposedly better for the environment (being Euro 6), is plated at 5 times that of mine. It doesn't tally in my mind.

Are others seeing less than 0.1 at their MOT smoke test?
Am I merely hoping to ignore the fact that my engine should be better?
Is it realistic to carry out any unknown amounts of remedial actions to 'hopefully' get to this 0.1 figure this year, and again next year........

That is horrendously low 0.1 I'd expect that on a much newer vehicle .

The low Ash JASO FB 2-Stroke is exactly that low zinc (anything low ash is low zinc and phosphorus) and the dilution rate is 1:200 so I'm putting just 250ml in a tank , is that really going to kill anything ?

No , I've been doing it every tank on one car for 7 years and 2 years on the OM651.

Also consider 2-EHN Cetane booster .

165k+.
New stat,
millers used for the last 5Kish.

Keen as I am to be a considerate motorist 0.39 seems acceptable.

I sold a previous 3.0L Viano as try as I did after spending ,000's on it myself and at Indies I couldn't eliminate the smoking. Being a 2009 model that one got an MOT like that.

As mentioned above, diesel emissions are not checked in NI. So...sell the van here.

Or is a N.I. MOT valid in mainland UK (not National Insurance MOT btw)?

Less than 80K Jimbo , when the water pump and fuel filter housing was done I told them to do a new thermostat regardless .

Of interest really,
the weights are easy to understand even if 2x 1550kg doesn't equal 3050kg.
I'm assuming the 'lights' 1% is a tolerance, also seems stringent what hey ho.
I don't think I understand the Mercedes-Benz bit any longer, i thought I used to.
Type 639 (model)/ 2 being the facelift.
Am I right in remembering that the 9744 relates to the DPF?

I haven't found another VIN plate anywhere, as yet.

What I meant was in
rerereference
to
the 2T oil .you have been using it since you got the car? Changing the thermostat woul make good sense during the other work.

Didnt used to be M80 as a English mainland MOT was always valid here. Test centres here are Government run so I cant see an issue testing a vehicle here and running it across the water unless it would come into conflict with the fact you dont live in NI or maybe london emmissions? I think the only issue unless its been resolved is the NI database didnt use to extend to the English police forces database, Hence ANPR would flag the vehicle as having no MOT. Maybe this is resolved now that Wales holds the Database for all NI vehicles
