We had our car MOT'd last week while it was in for it's annual service, was really surprised to have an advisory on it and Keith was pretty ticked off as this was how the car came out of the factory. We have phoned the garage that did the MOT and although they have put another one on the DVSA site with the advisory removed, the orginal is still on there, which Keith isn't happy about as he thinks it devalues the car. The garage said 'it's up to whoever does the MOT to put whatever advisories they want on the certificate' which makes me want to go and knock some sense into him. Is that true, can they really just decide in their opinion the privacy glass is too dark and put this  Screenshot 2021-03-30 at 11.55.07.png

Only the Vito left! W639/1 OM646
My Vito has no rear windows and is perfectly acceptable without anything ever needing to be mentioned.

Just looked at the .GOV website...
I agree, it shouldn't have even been mentioned.

Was this a main agent?

No we take it to a Mercedes Indie who then takes it to a garage for the MOT. I did phone DVSA and the guy I spoke to said quite categorically that an MOT centre can't just decide to put an advisory on 'just because they want to' and that our car is perfectly legal. Weird thing was when I check the MOT I can still see the advisory on the DVSA site but the guy I spoke to couldn't. Maybe their system isn't the same as the one we see? Which makes no sense sigh

I seem to spend half my life on the phone lately just to complain, don't even get me started on the inefficiency of HMRC

Sold - 2021 CLA 35 Premium.
As already stated there are no laws regarding tinting of vehicle windows behind the B pillar so the advisory is completely unnecessary.
It is annoying and I would like to hear their justification for stating this, but I wouldnt worry about it afecting the value of your car. :)

I know how you feel I sometimes think 90% of the UK population are incompetent but then I am turning into Victor Meldrew with on set of age!

They could stand to lose their MOT licence if you reported them, at the very least you should get an MOT refund...

I think I have turned into Mrs Meldrew as I seem to spend a lot of time complaining :p

Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
The fact it's an advisory not a fail suggests there must be something in there now about it (and there is a report "number" which references something too).

Almost every MOT I see now has as an advisory "Unable to see ...... because of undertrays fitted" - it's not a fail, and I don't think it should be an advisory either as these undertrays are manufacturer fitted.

I can see it being a touch annoying, but my view would be that life's a bit too short to spend stressing about these things and spending valuable time on them. Who ever did the MOT has clearly no idea about the law.

Think your first impulse to knock him out probably works best on several levels - otherwise not much you can do.
Wife's car failed because of stuffed toys on parcel shelf :-

I've had an advisory or two that I do nothing about but at the next MOT they are not mentioned. Its all down to individual opinion.

I don't think it would affect the value of the car at all. Any sensible buyer would just see it for what it is, an MOT tester having a bad day, and just ignore it. Most people like rear privacy glass. If the car was well cared for, and what I wanted, it wouldn't put me off at all. Tell Keith to stop stressing :)

Don't worry about it; like others, I have had 'odd' advisories that conflict with A) later MOT's where the problem 'disappears' and also B) how the vehicle comes from the factory; the undertray one is a favourite.

Re point A) from memory have had tiny stonechips on passenger side windscreen that are then fine for the remainder of the vehicles life, same for 'misting around shock absorbers'..

The good thing about standards is there are so many to choose from!
