i have a '91 300e, w124, 98,000kms.

i took it in to get an oil change saturday morning,, the guy used 5w20,, after i got home i noticed my motor making a serious ticking noise.

i was told to go to a heavier oil, but im woried about driving it back dowtown as i dont want to make it any worse.

im not a mechanic and have no tools to do this myself,, i just need to know if this guy has killed my motor or if i can go back down to get the oil changed again?

thanks in advance for any help,, pat hardy.

I would say from an engineering standpoint if you drive the car back fairly easy it will be fine.
The oil lamp will start to flicker if the pressure is getting low whether you have a 20, 30, 40 or 50 weight oil in the engine' PROVIDING you have the correct level and it is not low. That is what the oil light is for, "LOW OIL PRESSURE", if it is not coming on then you have above the minimum pressure required by Mercedes for safe driving irrespective of the weight of the oil..
