Installed this morning Malcolm, works a treat! The only problem was removing the small power plug on the CD changer. It was a straight pull out type with no lock/catcher to secure, but it was a job to pull out without damaging it

There are 2 recesses on the MP3 player to place double sided tape, and neatly secure on to the existing CD changer bracket. The player is only the size of a fag packet and weighs even less (about 5 grammes)

I will need to organise the files in folders of 99 and up to 3 subfolders within these.

Excellent sound quality. It does sound even better, maybe beacause the mp3 files are not converted to cd audio files like they have to be when using a cd changer :D

I know it doesn't show MP3 tags but does it show the folder names as "CD" names? I'm guessing it can only show six folders?

The folders dont show up. To skip from one folder (with 99 files) to the next folder(with 99 files) press forward for 2 seconds . Not ideal I know, but if you have 1000 or so files you can group the music as you wish in each and skip to each folder depending on your mood :D I have mine as 1. Opera, 2. Rock, 3. Favourites etc.

Its a good neat option for 1996-2004 cars with CD options only. It has the capacity for about 12,000 songs..........more than enough for anyone

I agree it is a neat option for cars with the CD changer only. I'm fortunate enough to have auxiliary inputs on my TV Tuner and my DVD/MP3 player can play about 10,000 songs from there, with MP3 tag display. The only downside is that I have to use a separate remote control and have no control via COMAND. BTW, I have my entire music collection on 15 DVDs, so about 600 GB, and I still have days when I don't like anything but the windows down and the sound of a V8 on song!

It's not safe so I don't. Changing tracks or albums involves pointing a hand-held remote at the centre console, where the IR receiver is located. Consequently I only use it to choose an album before setting off.

Pics of installed MP40 player on my S320 , and basic install info for those like me who are not experts, but can do a bit DIY

Pull back the carpet coverings from the tail light and expose the 2 bolts at the back which secure the CD changer bracket to the car.

Remove the small carpet insert which covers the CD changer to expose two further bolts (8mm) which secure the CD changer bracket at the front of the CD changer under the little carpet flap which allows access to the CD changer.

Remove these 4 bolts.

At this point you may wish to remove two of the cable ties which hold the power and optic cable in position to prevent damage to them as this allows easier access to remove 4 screws which secure the CD changer to the bracket.

Remove the 4 screws which hold the CD changer to the bracket.

Unplug the fibre optic cable and the small power cable from the CD changer. Be careful not to bend or break the optic cable and do not damage the end of the plug ! The small power plug is a straight pull out type with no catchers, pull out with fingers, not pliers as these will damage the soft plastic plug.

The MP40 player is then plugged into the power and optic fibre cables.

Reinstall the CD changer bracket, and secure the MP40 player to the bracket (to allow access when the carpet insert with the letter box opening is in place) with double sided tape. I used two 3 inch lengths in a double layer on the MP40 player recess which is there for this purpose.

I then attached another double sided tape length to the bracket and secured the player about 1/2 an inch (12mm) below the carpet cover above. The player is the size of a cigarette packet and weights the same, about 5 gramms (1/6 th of an ounce)

For me this was a great option to have up to 40 Gig of MP3 files. The music even sounds better than CD audio files. Some of my Opera is 320 kb/s quality as opposed to 128 kb/s CD audio

Organise the files in folders , max. of 99 in each folder. Any number of folders can be used. I have mine as 1.Opera , 2 Rock, 3. Easy listening etc.
To jump to another folder, press forward on COMAND for 2 seconds. To move to the next track press forward on COMAND once quickly, or via steering wheel controls

This has taken me longer to type than it did to install !!

Take your time and organise the folders ( 99 max mp3 files in each) well

Opera isn't a problem as some of mine are one giant file .....1 gig

Where you have a number of folders, try and have the initial song as one which you know as to what is coming next. I have actually recorded small initial sound files in the folders which as you select the folder it says "Folder one, Eighties geatest hits " etc.

Who needs tags ??
