I have a W203 with the standard single disc CD player in. I am looking at buying and MP3 player, what is the best way to listen to this in the car.

I have seen various diffenrent methods, including FM transmitters (similar to an I trip illegal in the UK !!!) the tape adaptor that i used to used wth CD players before i had a CD head unit (many years ago)

Any idea/comments on the best method, i don't really want to a new head unit.

Many Thanks

If you have a CD changer input, there is some way of hacking into that feed. Don't ask me details though.

I find easier just to use an MP3 player in the car. Just burn off some CDs for it...you get about 150 tracks on one disk...plus you can read what you are listening to, on the front of it.

I bought one from Maplin for £50 and I can still listen to Wogan in the morning!

I know you don't want a new head unit, but Aiwa make their CD head units with an aux 3.5mm front input for portable devices. I have one in my W124 so I can just plug in my MP3 player and go. The quality is much better than using a tape adaptor etc. Some head units may also have a rear aux input.

I thought that socket was for the microphone so you could use the Kariokee function.

It did strike me as a bit strange having to read the words of the display while driving.

I had a look at the Hellfords site and they stock the AIWA that I now crave. You can enlarge the picture and then print it out on a colour printer. Simply cut round the image and paste it to the dash and be the envy of all your friends.

I must say, the Aiwa is a bit blinging for me. It's got a blinding blue light that lights up the whole car and the buttons flash from red to blue. Can't get the bugger to stop it. They seem to be the only make who offer a front aux input tho, the less boy-racer Sony one's don't and Sony own Aiwa. Boo.
I did get mine for 25 quid off ebay though so a result I reckon.

what's the weather like up where you are Turnip? I was in your 'hood' in March 2 years ago and the weather was great.

I've bought a JVC unit. It has a line-in at the back. When you flip through the modes, you get Radio-CD-Line In. You can change this to miss out Line In, or add in the DAB and a CD changer if you want.

All I need to do now is run a wire to the glove compartment.

It's a JCB, KD-SH9104.

It does just about everything you can imagine. One good feature is the dimmer that comes on when you turn on the headlights.
