I have just bought a 1999 C250 turbo diesel saloon. Motorway MPG has so far been about 35 miles per gallon (70-75mph) this seems disappointing, has anybody got any comments about this performance.
my c250td (96 Auto- 70k) regularly returns 36-38 mpg on every day running, with slightly more on a mixed journey (inc. motorway). This is with climate on and in use. I would expect 40+ without too much effort given the right circs and no tear-arsing.
I think the best we've got from ours would be around the 40mpg mark and that was taking it easy. I recall the official figure is something like 35mpg - for the estate. I don't believe MB had economy in mind when they designed this engine, it's more tuned to performance...in diesel terms.
If you want more from it you'd have to consider a tuning module which, whilst improving the economy, would also give better performance. Alternatively swap it for a CDi as they should easily return 40+.
According to our E220 CDI Estate the computer on it says over the last 1100 miles we have averaged 35.1.
35 mpg from a mercedes is superb , you got to remember its not like running about in like a shitty citroen which is bulit from recycled coke cans. The cars are solid and might save your life one day......
Just think yourself lucky , my V6 does 19 MPG consistantly...... Sounds amasing tho
p.s. if you own a citroen and are reading this ... get a benz 8)
