Very true, but you don't need to wait for long on any journey to find someone driving too close behind you. At cruising speed, if you can not see their number plate in your inside rear view mirror, they are too close.

The significance of that observation is that, if you have to slow down or stop, you must take account of the vehicle behind as well as the situation in front.

If the driver behind is using a cell phone or applying makeup, it adds an extra dimension!

Yes agreed it is all about knowing what is around you 360 degrees and the consequences of your actions. The fact a roundabout was chosen throws a lot more variables into the equation.

In my experience the car's you cannot read the numberplate of 9/10 tend to have a BMW badge on them ;)

Funny but since I got the CLK it has been Audi drivers who HAVE to get ahead of me :D. My thinking is that they're still getting there which is why they're in a hurry, I've arrived so can take my time :D:D (tongue firmly in cheek!!!)

As for roundabouts - I would reckon that just about everyone has had that moment where you thought the person in front had gone, you're busy watching the traffic from the right and starting to move off and WHOA!!! the person in front has stopped. Heart-stopping even if you do brake in time.

If the car in front reverses into you and then claims that you drove into them with luck the reversing lights will have broken in the crash. If so and you can get the police interested they can check the reversing lights and as the lights were on the broken glass will have bits of element melted into them. Very difficult in getting the police interested I would have thought though.

There are people out there who would drive slow intentionally and then slam the brakes when you are near to them to get you to hit them. I guess the best technique is to always be alert not only for yourself but for others too

This does not work with these traffic light "S"cameras!!!! If you went through on amber, due to the judgement you made on what was behind you, and it was within the time window of "jumping the red light" then you get snapped.
There are so many idiotic drivers on the roads but with next to no traffic cops they can get away with the poor driving. I am going nowhere near any out of town shopping centre today (it's wet) because the idiots will be flocking there.

It always amazes me how so many people disagree with tail-gating, yet every day some excrement hole decides its a good idea to do it.
It is all sorts of drivers in all sorts of cars, for god’s sake! What will they do with the time they gain?? Would it not make more sense to just get out of bed earlier?
These are usually the same Pu***s that don’t have the guts to just over take (country roads). What are they waiting for? a Marshal to step out with blue flag?
Maybe expecting people to drive considerately, is expecting far too much again.
