Here's a summary

Work Carried Out

12 K service £129.62

Replaced Drive Belt, Adjusted Wheel Bearings, Replaced Front Discs and Pads £60

Defects
Wiper Blade Poor, Exhaust Tail Box Inside Loose, Centre Section Corroded, Flange at Cat/Centre Joint Broken (Not Leaking at Present), Rear Top Suspension Arm Bushes Started to Separate, Hand Brake Cables Outer Skin Split.

Bill Brakdown
Labour £189.62
Parts £97.43
Vat 50.23
Tot £337.28

The defects were not able to be done today and were not quoted for, am I looking at any horror stories for these?

Car is running nicely, no obvious defects were found for my cold start rattle (will see tomorrow if still there) but I'm happy with the received wisdom of this board that it should not be too much of a major issue.

Hi

Sounds like pretty standard stuff. The exhaust stuff I wouldn't worry about till it starts to leak, unless the loose baffles become quite noisy. If the top suspension arms have no free play in them. Then they and the handbrake cables can wait till the next service. Parts arn't expensive probably 2-3 hrs work with out the exhaust.

Regards

Thanks Andy

As a footnote there was not startup rattle today (although the ambient temp is warm), I notice from the service report that an oil flush was done before the new oil (Sh*ll
Helix) was added.

I'm no longer 'scared' of my Merc with regards to doing the non-service book stuff myself. Havnig looked around it underneath - it's simpler to work on than most of the car's I have had ( and always serviced myself ). Maybe well worth a purchase of a good quality set of britool sockets and a pair of ramps - they will quickly pay for themselves. ( But beware funny sizes - in the 20 years I have been underneath cars this is the first car I have ever needed an 18mm socket on). As long as you get the book stamped for the complicated stuff - try the easy stuff yersel.....
p.s. - is HElix fully synthetic? - I've done 3K now with fully synthetic in and is still sounds as quiet on start-up as it is when warm - I'll never go back to semi-synthetic. ( Although the 'hack' will always live on Duckhams multigrade )

Don't know which version of Helix it is, from the website these are the different formulations.

Sh*ll
Helix Super - 15W - 40
Sh*ll
Helix Super is a premium quality mineral oil based lubricant, formulated to meet the all-year-round requirements of passenger car engines.
Sh*ll
Helix Plus - 10W-40
Today's modern efficient engines demand a good quality engine oil. Sh*ll
Helix Plus is an advanced technology, semi-synthetic motor oil which gives superior performance. The low chlorine level reduces harm to the environment and the lower phosphorous content improves the efficiency and life of catalytic converters.

Sh*ll
Helix Ultra - 5W-40
Sh*ll
Helix is a unique fully synthetic lubricant developed using Sh*ll
technology and Formula 1 racetrack experience. It has been tried, tested and proven under the most extreme driving conditions. The result is the ultimate performance lubricant giving full engine protection. The light viscosity contributes to ease of starting and outstanding fuel economy.

I'm just curious as to why S H E L L is a banned word that ends up with a * in the middle?
