My 1st Mercedes

Hi I recently purchasd my 1st Mercedes c200 2.1 d
2005 plate (55) Auto
There seems to be a problem when driving under 2.5k revs the engine seems to race up & dowm - it feels like the fuel is struggling to get thru - over 2.5K and it runs as smooth as babys bot.
Has anyone got a suggestion that I could look into ??

Air mass sensor as a guess. Need codes reading really to be sure, sensor about £60 from MB.

This could be the MAF more than likely,,A little more than what Jib said and £150 from Bosch
