Hi,
The red & green l.e.d.s in the mirror and the drivers door what are they doing?
Your key it is a single button, with key blade that flicks out from the side?

Your immobiliser could be one of two types at that age, its either built into the alarm immobilising the fuel pump i believe, or it is (more likely) done by a raised bevel around the ignition switch, which recognises a transponder chip inside the key fob.
This system is normally asscoiated with cars where the ECU is situated under the washer bottle.
Have you tried your spare key?

Hi,
Yes the OVP relay could cause similar symptons, and i believe supplies the ECU and ABS i think, if your car has one it will be fitted on the passenger side under the bonnet, near the windscreen and can be recognised as it will have 1 or 2 fuses on it, these can fail, check the fuses and it might pay to run a soldering iron over the PCB inside the relay.

This would not be the OVP relay I will see if it has a fuel pump relay

Don't mention dead, pls. It gives me a chill as my 97 W202 is back on the road. On reading your post all sorts of whatifs may happen to my W202.

What if the exhaust breaks while I am in central London?
What if I couldn't start the car because of the immobilier/security module kick out?
