Hi,
The engine i have fitted is a CLK 55 AMG, which allgedly has 367BHP with 510NM of torque.

367bhp?!? and 510nm?!? damnn i want some of that power.

Is power delivery smooth or it goes all smoky? Hows traction control coping?

Hi,
Power delivery is as smooth and seamless as before, it is actually better because my old engine mounts were completely had it, and this engine is so much quieter than the 43 engine, and i thought that was quiet.
The traction control system (ESP) has no problem at all, after all its the same system fitted in the CLK55 and E55, indeed the ESP system system is same in all MB models equipped with it.

For those that were wondering what a 202 looks like under the bonnet with a 55 motor fitted.
4.3 M113 V8 still fitted

Yellow sticker on the right hand bank air in-take!!!

Thats just a random sticker i found a pt. no. for on the EPC and stuck it on the 43's airbox, (43 and 55 airbox is the same), after the first pic was taken.

The HT Leads are ribbed on the old lump??

There is a yellow sticker on the new engine cover??

HT Leads are the same as the 43's, its just the quality of the pic.

The oil pipe next to the dipstick.

Hi,
Its not an oil pipe, its something to do with the secondary air pump (i think that is what it is called) and associated gubbins because to remove them would leave open ports into the engine, i will eventually get the machine shop at work to make some blanks so it will all then be removed then there will be no difference to the eye anyway to the 43 engine.

Yes you hit the nail on the head, but like i said once it is removed, there will be no physical difference between the old 43 engine and the 55, the only way to tell will be from the engine number.

What a super conversion,well done :)

Got me thinking tho...I have a 300sl-24 and I've longed for a bit more power but I can't find a pre '96 500sl or 600sl in the colour combo I currently have,Alamandine red with deep burgandy interior, and would be interested to know if a C36 engine would a possible/easy conversion?

The C36 engine will fit but it is not a straight forward mod. You are better off just buying a 500.
