Well, I picked up the CLK320 last weekend from MB Direct, Solihull. I'd recommend them to anyone.....

I've had 4 or 5 days with it and here are a few observations:
  • The combination of the 18" AMGs and sports suspension is not as harsh as I'd expect.
  • I can't believe how quiet and smooth the 320 petrol is.
  • I'm not super happy with an average MPG of 22 but I guess I'll have to get used to that.....
  • Logic 7 is quite an improvemenbt on the stock audio setup.
  • Apparently on 500s came with the wind stopper - MB want £600 for one. E-Bay here I come.

I'll post some pics soon.

All cars are not so economical for the first few days as you will be playing with it a lot :D they will do 32 on a run

Great choice for the excellent summer weather we are about to have.

Could 22 mpg be a feature of enjoying the quiet and smooth 320's power delivery? My guess is that you will improve a lot on that as you get to know the car.

You would expect more fuel to be used top down compared to top up, but in my experience with the SL it does not seem to make any difference. Someone thrifty like hairygit might have more accurate information on that though.

Looking forward to the pics.

I get 22mpg around the city in my CLK320 but see 30+ on motorway trips at an average speed of 70/80 mph. Overall mpg over 50,000 miles is 28.0mpg according to the merc's computer/dashboard.

And that fits in perfectly with my 129 320 that I owned

Sometimes I get less than that with my 230k, but I put it down to Portuguese road conditions.
The conditions being the lack of traffic and income generating cameras/traffic police. ;)

Glad to read that you like the car though

I shall compare the computer to a 'brim-to-brim' next refill.

Hopefully, I'll get to take it on a long run soon so I can get feel for what it can do.

Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
I get around 29-32 from mine - I think 22mpg is, as has been said, enjoying that power a bit too much in the first few days!

In the days before fuel injection, I once had a car "crypton tuned" - it was perfectly adjusted.

The fuel economy plummeted - but the performance was to die for!!

Full marks for consistency though! Will be interesting to see what you get "driving for economy" - but is that an objective for you? :-?

I've got it set to 'C' and any more like "Driving Miss Daisy" and I'm going backwards.....

Guess that's what happens with 2x9 mile runs each day.

The interesting thing will be what I get on an 80 mile hack down the A14 and M11 later this week. If it doesn't go over 30mpg a happy bunny I will not be.

Bl00dy Hell.

I get 23/24 on normal driving & 27/28 on a run from my CLK430. Even when behaving like a total hooligan I get 21mpg.

You may have confirmed the diagnosis Mark!

But a more diplomatic person (?) could argue that 2x9 mile runs - probably just warming the engine up and not much time in the cruise, is going to be hard on fuel consumption.

Diesels do much better on that sort of motoring, but even they suffer, especially in very cold weather.

I would advise Seeker-UK not to consider self harm until he has had the chance to take it for a long run, doing what it does best - getting you from A to B when these are two points a long way apart!

I enjoy 28 mpg overall over the last eighteen months.
Up to 33 mpg can be attained at a 70 to 80 motorway cruise and city driving brings it down to 21 ish. Top down it drops by about 3 mpg. With the wind deflector in place it seems to give as good a mileage as with the top up. (maybe I'm just driving slower when al fresco...)

I get around 25 driving around in London, and 30 on a good run, you have extra lead in your boots ?

Not at all. :-(

Seriously considering that there is something not right...

Right.

80 mile trip, 80% dual carriageway / m-way.

Average = 29.8 mpg.

Definitely not a happy bunny.

For that sort of fuel consumption, I could have bought a ****** CLK500.
