imagine a fairly normal day, i am 250km in the bush, i badly need a 1inch 14tpi tap to clean damaged threads, i call our LEADING light foreman 250 km away in the capital explain all, send picture on mobile phone,two days later he rocks up on site with M14x1.5 and M14 x2, asking if i can manage with that ....! this kind of thing is EVERY day, thank god for gin,and March retirement

Gin comes in pints?

mine does.. every night 4 gin pint glass lemon and filled with tonic. 2 reason best thing to help get rid of the daily dust in throat.and second a number of these improve the wrecked sence of humour after a long day and gets me off to a nights kip so i can face the same shite the following day

Trying to buy BSF studs for a steam boiler in the USA, trying to explain to trainee why you need a 7/16 spanner to fit a 1/2" nut then he asks what's a spanner and you have to say wrench.
Pleased Im retired now but the G&T is still good

In a previous life I worked in the Lift Truck industry. The trucks we sold were/based on an American product.

They created an all-new worldwide model, designed and built in Europe. The parts stockholding was supplied to USA from Europe.

When the materials arrived at the parts division in USA, the goods inwards foreman scrapped all the ironmongery received because none it matched his test samples/templates - the threads and sizes were all of course, metric.

Anyway, a prescription from Dr Gordons will see you right and will be so much more enjoyable without the cause and effect mechanism! In the meantime, if you blink twice it'll be March! Just think... no morons in your life unless you choose to have them and if you come across any in your relaxed normal life, you can "reason" with them and make suggestions like performing a physical impossibility to any one of them who irritates you!

I remember two WWII stories... the first was that arrangements were made for the Rolls Royce engine that was used in the Spitfire to be built under licence in USA. The American engineers said the tolerances were "impossible". Rolls sent them engine that had flown 20,000 hours and told them to strip and check it and yes - the tolerances were all as specified.

Then there was the one about the university that sent "The smallest drill bit in the world" over to their counterparts in UK. They sent it back with a hole drilled through the centre...

get the points ,a month to go , i feel like a kid about to be let loose in a sweet shop ... aero eng 20,000 hrs ? no sure about that,in an airframe, maybe on a proving test bed?

Slow speed marine diesel about 8000 hours a year, oldest I sailed on was 27 years old so say 200,000 hours but that one was only 8000 BHP, highest was a Sulzer no camshaft, common rail with electronic activated injectors, 3 to a cylinder, two T/C's 37,000 BHP
