Thought I would start this little post to get the feeling of my fellow forum members.

I have my beautiful future classic Merc now, and it's running like a dream. So every day classic sedan, check.

The question is this, what next? And yes there will be a next. Now I must admit this won't be in this year... i think. ;)

But do I go for either
a. Sporty weekend cruiser, R107 SL
b. Beefy tourer, R129 SL or W208 CLK
c. Power house Sedan, any AMG model
d. Classic, pre-1980
3. Wagon, w123 TE or w124 TE

Another sedan in any shape or size seems like the least obvious choice. A fun weekend away and touring cars seems like the better option. So SL or CLK then...

Any thoughts? And is/has anyone gotten to this point also, and what did you do?

I think an SL would be the way to go

As for Malcolm - I would go for an SL. I don't know how wide a choice you might have in SA?

Here there are lots to choose from. It boils down to a personal choice between the 107 which has the classic looks, may have corrosion (but possibly not in SA?) and is older technology - and the 129 which may cost less, but be fairly certain to be rust free with newer technology (and powered hood).

I chose the 129 and have not regretted it - it has all the refinements that a good car made today would have - and it goes a bit!

We will be interested to read about (and see pics of) your decision making, search and eventual triumph when you nail the car of your choice.

Once you have driven an SL500 you won't want anything else.

I have driven one, :) bliss hehe
Wanted to feel the comparison between the SL320 and the SL500, well it's fairly obvious. :)

But I do love the R107 SL... timeless. And they have a very nice example where I bought my car.

White,black leather interior,full house,power steering,hard&soft tops,16" Lorinser rims,cd,132000km,immaculate condition.Stunning example of the R107.

But at the moment I am planning a trip up to 6 African countries working with various charities to photograph their projects in the countries. Need a little restraint. :) But no harm is looking so long.

Luckily there is no rush, I am still stuck in hordes of research and correspondence at the moment. Who said photography was glamorous? hehe But I do think that any SL has the potential to win me over. The other about a SL would mean that with w124 and a SL. My garage is sorted for quite some time to come. Buggered if I decided to move to Europe ;)
