One is a 300D 1991 Diesel saloon, which I have only had a few weeks, is only doing about 23mpg, expected more. What should I do. Am putting in injector cleaner which I thought might help.
The other is a 300TE 1989 estate, which since 2003 has run only on LPG; I bought it about a year ago. I have today got it to run again on petrol, as well as Gas, by using 'new' Fuel Relay, Fuel Preessure Regulator and a Rotary Idle Axctivator. Still poor cold starting, so might try a 'new' Cold Start Injector.
Got on quite well today but would like to 'talk' about my Petrol and Gas problems.
Ron.

A new cold start injector will not work especially when the electric ignition module or electric is defective or the injection system suffers from low maintenance. The 300D 6 Cylinder (non 16V) is not known as a fuel saver (but should be round about 25-28mpg ish) I'm afraid but both things have to be tested with the cars. :)

Hello Greez
Thanks for message; I had hoped for about 40mpg with diesel. Will check again at next fill up, as I have been adding injector cleaner. Now my estate in running on LPG and petrol, I will be checking that mpg, as gas is about 52p/lt. Don't know which one to keep.

Walsall, West Midlands, so a bit far to Exeter, but thanks.

Your Mercedes
nice 201 2.5D 1993 & very nice 129 SL500 1994
For my 250d 5cyl the fuel consumption is 36-38mpg, 50-50 motorway & town usage. Expect a little less from the 3 litre six.
Ensure the integrity of the injector return flexible pipes they can split just enough to loose some fuel but not wet everywhere with it, costs about 5 quid for a meter length and takes 10 mins to fit.
If there is any hesitance or rough running (at any speed or load) one or more the injectors could be in need of a new nozzle, about 35 quid exchange each.

Hi Ron,
I'm driving also a W124 300TE on Petrol and thinking about converting to gas. So it's a pity you're so far away .. The 5 Zylinder (250 diesel engine) is a good fuel saver but the 3L has a bit more power to keep up with the rest of the world :). But you can convert the engine to drive with cooking Oil. That makes the whole thing cheaper. The 300Te with gas conversion needs more maintenance, the diesel just drives on and on :)
Let's see how much diesel with go up compared with the normal fuel. But I thing the maximum difference between normal petrol has been reached now.

Greez,
Oli
