What are the pros and cons of using Nappa leather for car interiors?

Does Nappa leather wear more quickly? Does it look 'tired' sooner?

Is it nicer to sit on Nappa covered seats?

'Normal' MB leather (not Artico) is PU coated. Is Nappa?

I had the Nappa leather in my last SL,,it is thicker and harder, with a virtually non grained finish,,OK for an opened top car and the elements, but I would not want it in my SL again, its just too hard, and a little slippery

Thanks Malcolm. Must say the Nappa covered seats I sat on in the dealers this w/e were far softer than the leather in mine (std MB offering) and felt much more plush, like a fine glove leather.
I just wondered how such soft leather would fair in daily use. It's std in AMGs

I wonder if it has be changed, re the spec. I see it is now called "exclusive Nappa" I know that you can only have Comfort seats in certain leathers, you only find this out when placing an order. when buying a new S class, it was very difficult choosing the leather, as some leathers could only be in combination with some thing else

The Nappa I had in my 129 was very, very soft. It had a close grain and looked a lot better than normal leather. My seats were lovely and soft to sit in.

Mine was a 99 car and the Nappa was hard on the base of the seat

I've had 3 car's with the Nappa type leather.and a good number with real leather.

Nappa leather everytime, for me !!! ............... easy to maintain, long lasting .....looks good even as time goes by.

If your is slippy, you need to wipe it down with a soap flake solution ..... that'll sort it !

Thanks Peter for the link,, It answers one thing,, the 129 that I had used Nappa,,and the one I have now is exclusive Nappa. I have just checked all of my sales books.

So I have what I did not know I had,,and so yes there is a big difference between the 129 leather and the 230 leather.

So then Exclusive Nappa is soft and very nice.

In the link I saw the bit about door panels etc. My 230 is all leather inside and I have never seen another with all leather, and I can find nothing about this being an extra. I put it down to MB cutting back as the newer the car , the less leather you get
