Hi,
My car - 1998 C240 Sport W202.
Has anyone had a oil and filter change at National Tyres & Autocentre? They do the oil and filter including labour for £25.20 (Inc 10% online booking discount)
They supply up to 7 litres (additional charge if more is used) of Castrol Magnatec 10W40 and the filter. Seems like a great price.
Has anyone used them?

I doubt if you could buy a filter and 7 litres of oil for that price

You can buy the lowest spec Magnatec for £12 for 4 liters, it is only a part synthetic, I would have chose a slightly better version that conform to 229.1 and the better Magnatec does, but still a part synthetic

it sounds too cheap and you know what they say, if its too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true

I guess a generic filter and cheap oil (bought in bulk) and they could do it.
Most of us insist on fully synth (mobil 1) and proper MB filters and no, you couldn't do it for that - the oil will cost twice that alone, but pop down to your local parts shop and I'm sure you could buy the oil and filter for £15 if you're not fussy about what it says on the tin.

Wouldn't be putting anything other than MB1 in my benz. False economy which every way you look at it.

If I was driving a fiesta however, yeah thats a good deal. Probably wouldn't let those nuggets touch my ford either though.....

So should i only use fully synthetic 10W40 for my car. The mileage is approaching 128k.

If the oil pressure is good, and the car does not burn oil or use any, then you can change over, but work out the cost difference.

Say you have part synthetic and change every 7-8k miles or go fully and change ever say 10-12k

I would stick to the semi I think, but one that meets 229.1 and it will say this on the can

Bear in mind, with this offer from National, the small print on the website which says that if it is necessary to remove the undershield to access the sump drain a small charge of £10 to £20 will be made. Guess which end of the scale a merc. comes..........

Now we're up to about £50 (with the VAT.) and counting.
