Hi all Not really sure if I have the right forum but here goes.
I have a 2012 E220 CDI and need a little help or advice. can anyone tell me if I can adjust my parking brake as it is extremely difficult to release. I have to l have no tension when I pull the release handle, in fact I need to pull numerous amount of times before it will release.
My second problem when I press the the navigation button the screen states "NO Navigation" How do I rectify this? Lastly should the car have a SD memory slot.
Thats a lot of questions I hope some one out there can give me some guidance.

Hello and welcome,

To release the parking brake the best method of to use your left foot to press down on the pedal to take the tension off of the release mechanism. Then pull the release handle and gently lift your left foot up to bring the pedal back up slowly.

Alternatively don’t use the handbrake at all (unless you have a “manual” o_O:eek:)

Nav wise you might have a slot for a card in the centre armrest. The cards are available on eBay

Many thanks Bobcat. I will look for the slot again though all I have found so far is a USB slot.

If it is a 2012 there will be a Becker map pilot unit in the glove box. Some come Nav ready; the receptacle is in the glove box but the unit is not there. More are not Nav ready.
If you have a nav ready system you can get the unit on ebay etc. If buying the unit get a sealed unit, as irrespective of the age on the unit, if it is sealed you can go online and get the latest maps free. It is then basically plug n play.

2012, - it’ll be a bit out of date. Better off just getting a good phone holder and using WAZE for free!
Live traffic, reroutes around hold upd etc.

If you read my previous post you will see that if you get one on the likes of ebay etc that has not been opened and registered you can update it to the latest maps free of charge...and you can check back again within, I forget, maybe 30 days,or perhaps 60 days, and any updates in the intervening time will also be free

It won’t change the hardware - and you are looking at more than a decade old technology.

In my 212 E350 CDI 2011 map updates are with a CD/DVD.
They cost about £100 & are updated every year. I still have the original 2011 mapping & use Waze, saved me £1,000.
Waze is light years ahead of the MD one. Very slow to calculate/update, no speed cameras, & very slow traffic update.

I don't get your drift on this at all. why would you need different hardware? Its compatible with the car and the Audio system.

The software is totally up to date, it works as it should. I have the 22/23 maps. I see little or no difference between it and the system on a family members 70 plate Audi A4. There is very little difference between it and Garmin; in fact the replacement is a Garmin Map Pilot from sometime around 2016. That system has an SD card and my 11/15 manufactured Becker has an SD card also. I had forgotten that..
The unit is a hard drive with a rechargeable battery. No different from using an SD card or a CD/DVD.
It has voice control and control from the steering wheel; speed cameras, traffic etc etc.

Obviously Google maps and waze have dynamic updates, but they have their drawbacks also....and they let you down with a bang when reception drops.

Waze mapping is downloaded to the mobile device, & iPhone GPS works without a data connection.
All you loose is live traffic. I used it in Cambodia & Vietnam last week, without a data connection.

That will only take you from A to B as per the download. No traffic, no reroute for a diversion. I hate iphone.
from Google
Will Waze work without internet?

For all aspects of Waze to operate, you must have an active data connection on your mobile device. This connection enriches Waze with real-time traffic-related information and ensures an up-to-date map. Without an internet connection, you won't be able to locate or navigate a route.
