hello again. Just a few bits of advice if anyone can help.

Can anyone suggest the best car wax for the newer "soft" Mercedes paint finishes. I know it says 1000 miles for running in but at what point after that can you make full extent of the engine without fear of damage. Does it cause any harm leaving the automatic gearbox in "W" for day to day relaxed polling around.

Hope someone can help

Best wax in my opinion is Zymol. Very high (carnuba) wax content, smells gorgeous (coconuts!) and imparts a superb finish if used properly.

Best method of application is to warm a small piece in palm of your hands and stroke it on! First time my wife saw me doing this to my cars she thought I had taken leave of my senses!

It is, however, pricey at about £40 for a starter kit, but the upside is the wax will last you for several years!

I've just got a new 'E' and I've asked the same questions. I decided to use the Mercedes products for the paint care, keeping the receipts. Then if there are any problems with the paintwork, they can't wriggle out of it by saying you used the wrong stuff. I'm very wary of this new eco-friendly paint, it's soft and it's durability must be suspect. I even use a smallish soft paintbrush to get the grime out of the body panel/trim joints!!! How sad can you get.
Don't be in a hurry to enjoy you engine. Build up gradually any it will repay your patience in the long run.
On the same lines, I would leave the auto box on 's' setting. I've always started in first when using a manual box because the engine feels more comfortable. (Similar to trying to ride off on a bike in a high gear).

hello and thanks for the replies they were usefull and welcome. I like the bit about the soft brush! I thought it was me who got up to that sort of thing, however, hows this for sad, I pinched some of my wifes new make up brushes, you know the ones which are really long and soft that they put powder on with, they are puuurfect for getting dirt and bits of grit from between panel seams and rubbing strips. Trouble is you have to undertake this ritual at two in the morning when no-one is around!

See Ya
