Start by checking the throttle body

Hi, your problem with starting could be related to the throttle body. it may also be making the rattling noise you here as the stepper motor could be cycling back and forth if there is a problem here. Suggest you clean up the inside of the throttle body and make sure the flap can seat properly - you just need to remove the plastic air inlet ducting, there are detail instructions for this on the forum if you do a search.

If this does not work you will need to go through a detail step by step process of checking plugs, leads, water and air inlet sensors and then engine ecu. It is also worth getting the lambda sensor checked. If you are not inclined to have a go at this yourself you should take the car to a garage that can run a diagnostic check (but don't use a main dealer unless you are prepared for a big bill - not really worth it with an older vehicle).

Good luck.

Hello,

The rattle you may have could also be the drivebelt tensioner damper! This can be proved by appling pressure to each on the bushes on the damper in turn and see if it stops the noise!

As already said check a clean out the trottle body for stalling fault!

Good Luck
