Need help to identify a mercedes engine

Hi,

I recently purchased a mercedes engine from a scrap dealer here in India but I have run into problems as I cannot identify the model of the engine using the serial numbers punched on it even after extensively looking on the web. This engine and gearbox had been purchased for a project that I am working on here.

The details that I have been able to scrape together are as follows:

Engine:
Serial Numbers: M1160111201, R1160163401
It is a Aluminium Block V8.
Do note when I topped one cylinder with petrol to measure the cc at BDC it flowed out at 400ml and I cannot confirm if it is a 3.2, 3.5, 3.8

Gearbox:
Serial Number: 12627101

I need to identify this engine as the ignition assembly for the distributor is not available and I cannot start the engine without it.

someone will probably be able to help you more but looking at the first code I think you have the M116 engine.

Measuring the bore and stroke would establish the size of the engine accurately.
