I'm going to need to top up my Adblue tank for the first time in the next 1000 miles or so. Question is, does it matter what Adblue I add? Are there any variations in specification or detrimental effects from using "Supermarket" products? I know it's basically just a urea solution, but not certain if they are all the same.

TIA,
Bill

Use whatever is cheapest. Just don't try filling up at an Adblue pump for HGV's. HGV's have a magnet in the filler which 'releases' the nozzle, and which your car will NOT have.

I have never done mine assume it must be done at service.

Make sure you go for a non spill dispenser otherwise you could end up with spillage (not good)

I noticed that Costco sells it. It's sold in metric gallon containers ..... no idea of price.

Does the W212 E200 CDI 2010 Merc use AdBlue ? It's Euro 5 according to the VIN, but no mention of Ad Blue? Nothing at the fuel filler to indicate it uses it either.
Regards, Jim2

I don’t believe so Jim - it would be a BlueTec designation if so and I think Adblue was a later introduction

EU5 cars are fitted with a DPF (which filters soot) the EU6 cars are fitted with a DPF and ADBLUE system (to reduce NOx). As regards the 212 e class pre-facelift cars are EU5 (2010-13) facelift cars are EU6 (2013-16)

Just spotted this thread as I'm researching the Adblue situation. I have the price brochure for the E class dated June 2011 and it says the E350 BlueTEC is Euro 6. This price list came with the July 2010 brochure.

I note though, that on the W212, the MPG goes down on the BlueTEC and the CO2 is up. However the NOx is reduced a great deal. Of course you have the added cost of the Adblue.

For those of us that would like to see cars cleaner but still have to be mindfull of the Total Cost of Ownership has anyone done all the sums on the W212 350CDI TCO? Just curious as these models are on my short list for when my S203 has to go.

I've never ever heard of AdBlue before now, so it's just for Euro VI class of engine. Every day is a school day.
