I was just wondering if anyone has got up close with the new C-Class yet. Might seem like an odd question but does it have a dip stick for the engine oil level? I'm considering buying one but haven't got to the dealership yet for a test drive as I'm also looking at the EQA so trying to get them both available at the same time.

There was a time when I would have thought that was an odd question...but not now when my car (CLA 250) does not have a dipstick.
This is my first car like this and I have to admit I do not like it at all. I would much rather have a conventional dipstick to check my oil level whenever I please.
Being electronic and you can only check the level with the engine running, the result is that you end up checking far less than you would with a dipstick.
Having said that some people rarely if ever check their oil level anyway. :p

And also given that you should never overfill to save the MAF sensor, it is so difficult to to remove excess engine oil.

My less than one year old C300 got a recall notice a few weeks ago, something about re-routing wires or pipes. I made an appointment and had the work done last week, just a quick check, it took well under an hour, and the coffee and biscuits have re-appeared.

While I was there, I wandered over to the sales area, for a quick chat with what seemed to be the only MB employee in attendance, to ask him about the "new" C Class. He told me he hadn't even seen one yet, only an MB supplied video, they aren't expecting to see an actual car until September at the earliest. I'm not planning on buying one for two or three years at least, but I'm an increasingly analogue man in a world that's becoming increasingly digital, I was a bit concerned about what I'd read about the model that would supersede mine, and I'm very pleased that I bought mine when I did. I was directed to a new S Class, being told that the interiors were very similar, and my worst fears were confirmed, no proper separate heating navi & other controls, no click wheel on the central console, everything on a laptop sized touchscreen, and I hate touchscreens. It's probably possible to see the car's engine oil level, if you really concentrate and take your eyes off the road for long enough. These things are madness, no-one seems to like them, they're constantly mentioned in press write-ups as being badly designed and verging on unintelligible, so why are they being foisted on us increasingly by car manufacturers? We can't use a hand held phone in our cars, but these things have been approved as acceptable on our increasingly crowded roads. As I said earlier, madness!

My thoughts exactly. I do my own oil changes and I do it using a vaccum pump through the dip-stick hole. If the new C-Class doesn't have a dip-stick I won't be buying one!

Yeah I hate these electronic oil level things and as I said above the lack of a dip-stick will prevent me from buying the car. I think the reason they are switching to electronic oil level is to force you to take the car to a dealership for an oil change which in my opinion is a waste of time and money when I can do it myself with a vaccum pump in 20 minutes. I also can't understand the thinking of a touch screen in a car. We can't use the touch screen on our phones so how is it safe to use the touch screen in the car. I like the click wheel on the centre console personally.
