Well the daily update continues...went to the local MB dealer today. I thought only one way to find out, so I drove in this order:

- 66 Reg GLE 350d
- 70 Reg GLE 300d
- 69 Reg GLE 400d

I don't need to finish the story, you know what happened....

...but for those who like a story finished...looks like I am now looking for a new shape 6 cylinder.

I took these snaps at their last event at Epsom... perhaps this will tempt you to the blue side...

I love the MB marketing there. Nearly was enought to tempt me to turn blue.

But, I have seen a price of £49k brand new for a 300d. MB now have an 'online showroom' which is actually very competitive cutting out people like car wow and drive the deal. I have tried them all, but online showroom beats their prices. Makes sense as no commission to pay. Well done MB.

However, I need the 6 cylinder rather than the 4 pot. The 4 pot is perfectly adequate, perhaps I am just being selfish but just on WOT it does sound slightly revvy and noisy. I regretted getting the 4 pot on the GLC so determined not to make the same mistake again.

Anyway, I will sleep on it. Knowing me, I will decide that spending 50k on a car is not the right thing to do in the midst of a global pandemic.

Having now sold my old car, I need a car quick. A big 4x4...perhaps buying something to keep me going for a few months or a year will be a better option...

Indeed.. I have spent the last month looking online which is why I was there and also to check on my poorly car but am holding out until next quarter...I was just browsing and saw this beast behind me which almost swayed me from my mission...
good luck in your search...

Well the fun continues...just this afternoon the below pops up...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202009173849379

However, on further research it appears it has 'never' been serviced or MOTd (yes I checked the MOT history).

The miles are very low. Very appealingly low. How would I know if that is genuine?

Go and see it to see how overdue the service is, should pop up on the dash on start up

To be clear. The car is 4 years old. And has NEVER been serviced in its lifetime...therefore the service is 3 years overdue technically. I am sure they have just reset the dash each year. If I was going to contemplate it I would have wanted an indy on it with star machine to verify mileage which seems a faff at this stage.

More worrying it has also never been MOTd. So MOT is one year late...no record anywhere of mileage therefore and currently showing 7k miles...

My CLS wasn't recorded as serviced or MOTd during 2019 although to be fair it did have its first and second service.
My thinking is that it was either a lease car from MB or some other sort of 3 year deal and that when the emissions scandal broke MB gathered up as many cars as they could and stored them until the news got hold of other more worthy stories (Covid?) then punted them all out to dealers. When I was shopping for mine the guy at Arnold Clarke said as a group they had just bought 400 as had other groups, and suddenly there were cars available that weren't apparent in my earlier searches.
Of course I could be way off the mark...it's not unusual! :D

I find that mind blowing!!!!!!!

I also find it staggering a dealer would try to sell a car with an MOT 10 months late!!!!

It also hasn't been taxed since Nov 2018

I didn't check the tax, that is interesting!

Made me nervous, the dealer has many very low mileage cars to be fair. But if this hasn't been taxed since 2018, perhaps it had a non-recorded accident which needed work? Could be anything I suppose. I would rather buy a car which has done 10k miles per annum to be honest!

I am sure he would have sorted a fresh MOT before sale and he did say they would service it in-house.

I would want it serviced by MB or a reputable indy and the history uploaded to the portal
