Hi there - back to the club after a few years absence, thanks to my old E280 chewing its balance shaft! Now I'm in an E55, early 2004 model, with 44k miles and a healthy spec.

After an unsuccessful Focus ST ownership, it's great to be back in an E Class, and I'm hoping for many years of (relatively...) trouble-free ownership.

Does anyone take their cars on the classic car circuit?

Hi John and welcome to the forum. The car looks really nice :)

Thank you! I think it is, or hope so at least! It's an ex-Guernsey car with a full history.

Just had it in at a local specialist for a few items sorting (rocker cover gaskets/ trans and SBC fluid change/ rear brake pipes and flexis for MoT) but, other than that, clean bill of health.

It's also in at Mercedes on 11th August for recall SRPC2001 to have the sunroof replaced - I didn't think they'd recall anything so old!

Great looking car! Wow the recall was surprising on a 16 year old car.

Thank you!!

Yes, nobody was more surprised than my Mercedes dealer when I rang to book it in. I thought perhaps it was an old recall which hadn't been actioned but no, it's May 2020.

I'm a touch nervous as I can't imagine a lot of the MB techs today will recognise a W211, let alone have worked on one.

Hopefully they'll recognise it's an old girl, and be extra kind!

I'll pop a note of the recall and details in the E Class forum, just in case it's helpful to anyone.

Hi and welcome,

Looks to be a nice car too, an E55 is a far better place to be sat in.

Would be grateful for the recall info too, have heard about it but assumed it was US as usually. A problem with the adhesive I think.
Thank you

Thank you very much, I shall enquire regarding my S211.

See what they have to say at my local MB.

Cheers Wighty!

There's a couple of things I've yet to do - the infamous duo valve (rear climate stuck on hot) and also checkout the gearbox.

The atf was changed a couple of years ago but, to me, it's not shifting great, particularly at lower speeds, and sometimes needs manually nudging into top.

I think I'll go all out and have the conductor plate changed, as well as the oil and filters.

Good point - I will add that to the list!

Might get them to change the supercharger oil - I know that's supposed to be sealed for life, but I'm sure it must be manky after 16 years...

I changed my supercharger oil at 50k on the CLK , it’s Mobil Jet Oil II , cheap enough job for them to do . Might do mine again soon I’m at 80k now
