Hi

I have owned a new automatic C200 coupe since March. From new it has made an appalling groaning noise on releasing and applying the brake. It is probably worse cold and probably worse when the brakes are released rather than when applied. The dealer has stripped down all of the brake system and replaced the brakes themselves. I genuinely believe that they are stuck for ideas to cure the problem. It is booked in for four days next week on the basis that I want it sorted before it is returned.

Has anyone any ideas on this one?

Thanks

Max

does the groaning only occur when you are in motion

if so, you have slightly binding brakes.I can replicate the noise you describe, I think, by backing off on the service brake from stationary downhill until the the pads are just touching the disks and exerting the slightest of pressure, the vehicle then moves almost imperceptibly, and the brakes make a noise like humpback whales mating.
The pistons are sticking in the calipers a bit, possibly, or they might need a bit more running in. What's your mileage?

The noise occurs when I bring the car to a standstill and when, from a standstill, I release the brakes. It does not occur when braking at speed. So far I have clocked up 5000 miles.

It sounds like an old banger - a very disappointing introduction to MB.

Cheers
