Hi all

I put a deposit down on a new car today!! First Merc I've had and I hope it will be a Good one.
46k on clock and fmbsh.

Ive had a few cars over the years and have just given a company one back to get this. I looked at Audi- chain issues, bm - chain issues and Merc- chain issues

Initially I was put off the Merc by the issues I read but I didn't think I'd find a luxury German commute without risks. I was very impressed after testing two - I ended up giving up the one with heated leather for one without but with comand. I believe, from research, I should be in the clear with injectors though? Could anyone clarify if the 651 is a non interference engine? I.e if I get chain issues it won't be sudden death? I assume it wpuld be a couple of grand to sort? Also, provided the garage I've bought off is approved, I was planning to take out tier one. Am I better off keeping a pot? The car is pretty clean and chuffed however I want to make sure my eyes are open. Sorry, I know it says don't ask questions here but it' more newbie advice I was after.

Thanks

I would put the warranty money in a pot as a just in case, the W204 is pretty bomb proof and a well sorted car

Personally I would keep the money aside and find a good indie near to wherever it is you live.

By the way, welcome.

2012 car as others have said I’d vote for a pot - if you were prepared to pay for tier one stick the equivalent in the bank, likelihood it will still be there next year in a 204....
Find a good indie nearby- we can make recommendations

Thanks for your replies gents. I'm under no illusion that it's Mondeo running costs. Yes the warranty is around 700. I will keep aside a good chunk and keep topping it up. I think tier obe is out the question due to the garage whom im buying from doing last service. Is the engine non interference ie if the chain goes the pistons aren' smashing the valves skyward?

Hi Wreedie25 and welcome to the forum. I’m no expert on the 250 engine (or any others for that matter!) but for a car that has been well looked after with that mileage I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Enjoy your new car and let’s have some pictures when you get it.

Thanks for such a warm welcome. Yes I've spent similar money on petrol motors but never diesel and never Merc. I've always wanted a Merc and decided after driving a truck 3-4 hours a day I'd just take car allowance and have something I love and pay a bit of my own cash to have it.

Thanks all. I picked her up on Friday and so far so good. I've come for a pickup (made sense company vehicle tax). The difference is obviously night and day.

First impressions - Seats feel very comfy - bit of a shame it doesn't go slightly lower but will get used to that. 7g gearbox is brilliant! I didn't think I'd ever buy a diesel as a personal car but it just made so much sense for my commute. Love the DAB and sound system and have ipod media interface which is good. headlights nice and bright and everything just generally has a quality feel to it.

So far, I haven't totally fallen for it - maybe it is the lack of the petrol engine noise - I don't know. Maybe I just need some time driving it. I think once I've cleaned and waxed it myself it will probably sink in that its mine to keep and look after.

It does its main job very well though and after having some fast cars previously I didn't expect it to be so willing to power on. That's where the box really shines.

Cheers John. Thanks for the recommendation - it was my next question. It needs an a7 service is circa 200 days.
