hi everyone, my neighbour has just traded his 3 yr old hyundi 4x4 top spec. £28k new, 3 yrs. old for a clk 330 convertible. straight swop at £13k. he said as soon as he saw the merc it had his name on it, also the depresiation on his 4x4 top spec. hyundi was unacceptable, all be it was a superb vehicle.
when i looked across the village green to his house i saw the silver machine with the rag top. i asked him "how come they have loaned you a new merc whilst your 4x4 is being serviced" ?
he said the merc is mine, just before i thought he was joking i spotted his private number plate on it, so i immediately knew he was not joking.
the car had 18 inch alloys, bright gleaming brake callipers, pale blue leather upholstry, absolutely 100% showroom condition, the boot had never been used, the battery had all the test stickers, under the bonnet the aluminium, and zink plated components were new and gleaming, the rag top was jet black, not a mark on it, it was a brand new car.
i am not familiar with the convertible model range so i genuinelly thought this was a new car.
i asked him did he have to run it in, he is as old as i am so he knew what i was asking?
his reply flabergasted me, he said " it has done 39,000 miles and is 8 yrs. old. it was a wealthy ladies second car.
this experience was a first for me, not a scratch, no stone chips, no marks on the wheels or tyres, not a single mark on the interior.
it was as though somone had bought the car and then placed it in a heated garage and run it on rollers for 39,000 miles.
what a lot of car my neighbour got for £13k. he said it was a v6 petrol engine and was very quick, returning 28mpg. urban, and 36 mpg. on long runs.
i did not dare tell him that in two years time his car would be eligable for the current government's "scrapping scheme". i do not know what this car would have cost new, but i am sure some members out there will know ? herbiemercman.
