There's no such thing as depreciation .....................It's just usage ya pay for, unless you leave it on the drive.

I was going to purchase ..... but with ridiculas finance figures, I went for a PCP....... the low rate was too tempting .............. if it's worth more the the final baloon payment..... I'll keep it !

Interestingly enough ........ I looked at "other"cars 1st, before buying this one ................ Ford Veebub & Audi, dont wanna sell cars do they .................... lol

By the way thumper why do all your posts have .................... in them?
is it a medical condition? or are you sending a strange morse code?

mpg

I bought a new 220 CDI estate 2 years ago. The initial fuel consumption was disappointing - although perhaps not as bad as yours. Around 36 to begin with and did not average more than 40 until 10,000 miles, but thereafter it eased up a lot and now @ around 10600 it will achieve 46 on a decent run. I expect it to improve further and should give 50+ when fully run in.

It would be interesting to hear what consumption the higher mileage 220 CDIs give?

My 220 cdi has just turned 85k miles and even on a 11 mile daily journey to work it will register 50+ and on longer journeys I can get around 56 on comp.Just depends how you drive them.Done a SAFED driving course and it's surprising how you can save fuel.

That is excellent and should cheer the OP up a bit!

I used to meet colleagues from our US plants at the airport in my W211 320 CDI and take them around our factories in the Midlands. These guys used to be quite suicidal when they saw my mpg on the dial (48-50).

They commonly reported "single figures" on their SUVs!

My new C class engine, is tighter than I am ............... I got 32 MPG over 350 miles yesterday, traveling to Lee on Solent and back, Mainly down the A34/M3/M27, doing 75MPH on cruise.

Should I expect MPG to be this bad on a new C220 CDI .......... I've had new cars in the past, but never was the consuption this poor at the start ........ I'm on 1250 miles now.
Funny things these fuel consumption computers, when I was looking far an E class my local dealership gave me an 08 E220 CDI exec to borrow for a couple of days and it recorded 49.2 mpg on a 25 mile trip from Winchester to Liss on the A272/A3 all within the speed limits. Since buying my E class the best I have got is 47 on a trip to Nuneaton and on my usual trip across A272 to Winchester the best has been 43.2.
I took the car to TPs this morning for a repair to the drivers window and was given an 08 C220 cdi Classic auto (7k miles only), it returned 49.2 from Hindhead to Winchester town centre (35 miles) normal driving dual carriage way, A road and a bit of town centre stuff.
Makes me wonder how accurate these things are!!
Paul.

I think you are right Paul, they are indicative rather than accurate - but then so are speedometers - usually erring on the side of safety.

The best gauge of fuel consumption is "brim to brim" filling - and the higher the mileage you do this over, the less inaccurate your estimate becomes.
